Pixel Art - Lesson 1
Program
First of all, you’ll need a program to draw in. Almost any program should be ok, even the scratch editor works! In these lessons, I will be using the scratch editor.
Setting Up
Before you start, you’ll first need to zoom in all the way and go to bitmap mode. Next, select the smallest pen size.
Starting
1 - Pick any darkish color that you want to use for an outline of a shape. I usually use black, but it is up to you.
2 - Start drawing your outline by using the pen tool. Remember to go pixel by pixel, don’t draw normally or your pixel art will look like bitmap.
3 - Find a color and use the fill tool to make your shape is completely filled in.
4 - Now you need to add detail. For example, if you were doing a emoji, you might do a mouth and eyes. Remember, go pixel by pixel.
Assignment
Your assignment is to create a simple piece of pixel art. If you don’t have any ideas, try to do some of the ones below.
- Emoji
- Flower
- Gemstone
- Cup of Coffee
- Sun
If you have any other questions, just ask!

Ok! How's this? (Sorry that it doesn't have the circle around it, I can change that)I like it! One one suggestion would be to try and make the face more circular. Lesson 1:
How's this?
Your next lesson should be released soon.

Pixel Art - Lesson 2
Have you ever noticed that the scratch emojis are slightly darker on one side? This is called shading. In this lesson you will learn all about how to shade.
Starting
1 - Get your art that you made in the last lesson. This will be the emoji that you will be shading in this lesson.
2 - Make sure that your background color is a brightish color such as yellow or lime. This will make the shading easier. If your art is not a light color, you can easily recolor it.
3 - Find a color that is a darker then you background color. For example, if you were using lime, you would use green.
4 - Now you need to draw a line that goes along one side (usually the right) of your art. See my example below.

5 - Make another line that is a tiny bit lighter next to the line you made before.
6 - Continue with this pattern untill you get to about one third of your picture. If you don’t like how it turned out, try experimenting with different colors and lines.
Assignment
Your assignment is to shade you pixel art you created previously and create a pixel art flower to shade.
Tell me if you have any questions!

Ok!Awesome!and
For you face, I would try shading it a bit more.
For the flower, try making it a bit bigger. It was kindof hard to see the details.
