What is Discuss Scratch?

So….. What is Discuss Scratch? I tried out making a signature and that was confusing. Even typing now is confusing! What do those symbols mean? I'm not new to Scratch but I'm new here! Please explain!

Ravenclaw in my head,
Rugby field I tread.
Art I adore,
Irish on the Dance floor.
Millions of cats to welcome me home,
Reading is the place that I roam.
Bad at poetry? That, I am.
To end this poem, I'll say ba-bam!

What is Discuss Scratch?

That header that says Discuss Scratch is how we know we're in the forum for discussing Scratch… the discussion page.

Your opening post kind of confused me. Can you explain what you need help with?

What is Discuss Scratch?

First of all, welcome! Discuss Scratch is a section where users can use the forums. The symbols are shortcuts which allow you to use tags, such as bold and italics. Be sure to read the “stickies” at the top of the forum before posting; many people don't see them.

Ah, homonyms.
I know you meant “read” as in past tense of read (I never read the stickies), but someone could read that as “never read the stickies” with a present tense read, thus thinking you were instructing someone to never read the stickies.

What is Discuss Scratch?

The discussion forums is a collection of forums in which you can do a selection of things: ask for help, help others with, discuss your favorite shows and make suggestions to improve scratch.
The “symbols” you can see above the space where your typing all do various things. You can make text bold, underlined, italic or cross it out. you can post images from accepted image hosts and make links to projects and other (scratch appropriate) sites. You can add bullet points if you wish. you can also post smileys and scratch blocks:

Example

~~If life gives you kumquats, lock your signature up, bury it in the ground and hope it's safe~~
hello child. i am an elf

Ok! Thanks a lot to everyone! I think I figured out how to do some things with your help:
  • bold
    italics
    underlined
    crossed
    when [a v] key pressed
    pen up
    [/list]

Ravenclaw in my head,
Rugby field I tread.
Art I adore,
Irish on the Dance floor.
Millions of cats to welcome me home,
Reading is the place that I roam.

  • Also, I highly recommend you use the green check mark button - it allows you to preview what you're posting, to make sure you used BBCode properly.

EDIT - see, you closed the [list] tag inside of a [scratchblocks] tag. [scratchblocks] and [code] are special because they don't recognize BBCode tags (except for their closing counterparts). This means that BBCode doesn't notice you closing the list tag so my above text appears as though it were a list item.
