EV3 Scratch Extension now available

We've created a working EV3 Scratch Implementation. It's linked over on the ScratchX site and is being used in our classroom to control EV3. The kids absolutely love it. It is so much easier for them than using the LEGO apps.

I'd love to get some feedback on it if people have time to try it out.

Bluetooth connection immediately - unlike home edition which requires two clicks to connect.

For Open Roberta - scratch like programming for LEGO MINDSTORMS EV3, do we need to buy the open roberta kit. I have installed Lejos OS on EV3, can I just use Open Roberta. If so what are the steps

the documentation page says: “Go to this link using Safari (Mac) or IE (Windows): EV3 Scratch Extension. We have not had any luck with Chrome.”

Heyo! It says I need to get some extension in the Tips menu, but 1. Where in the world is the Tips menu? 2. What extension???

I have found this Ev3 Scratch extension before, and thought it was really cool. Not having an Ev3 at home, I couldn't do it myself. So I asked my LEGO Robotics teacher a t school if we could use it. He replied that we had to find out whether the extension was allowed in First LEGO League tournaments. Searching, All I found was this is this quote:

“Any software that is not Official LEGO software, or any other registered LEGO software, is strictly prohibited.”

Neither the ScratchX Privacy Policy, the DMCA, nor the Terms of Use were any help. So unless I can find proof that this is allowed in competitions, I can't use it in my classroom for doing official competitions. So if someone is reading this who works in Scratch, you need to get conformation that this thing is legal for official competitions. Don't get me wrong, I really want to use this. But the building and programing for the competition challenges starts in 2 weeks, so someone please answer.

I followed the instruction to install the latest device plugin and try to connect the PC to the Lego EV3 brick through the bluetooth.

However I got the error pop up window “See the Tips Window (on the right) to install the plug-in and get extension working.” But I don' find any Tips Window in the scratch editor page.

Any thing that I missed?

By the way, you might want to make “button pressed” a boolean.

Is their a way to connect using a cable, so you don´t have to pair the computers and ev3.

This summer we made some updates to this extension:

added velocity to the Steering Control block;
restored Gyro sensor read value block (angle, angular velocity options) - it was commented;
created Gyro sensor reset angle block;
fixed Touch sensor Boolean synchronous block (it returns if the button is pressed: true/false) - we created a new ext function that calls the usual whenButtonPressed function to avoid visualisation problems of the blocks after saving and loading the .sbx file. We commented the deprecated readTouchSensorPort function;
created command Block for changing the volume of the played note (only changes the global value of the volume variable)

Then we also translated it into italian language.
