I think that we should be able to follow a Cloud Variable by Right Clicking it, then underneath the delete, and rename button, there should be a button that says “Follow”. then, when the variable has been changed, it says in your messaging “username” changed “variable”. If it gets annoying, You can always click “Unfollow”

The follow button should be on the log IMO because right click on variable monitors is disabled in project page view.

I think there could be a feature that you get just one message if the veriable changed more times. that's quite complicated but possible I think.

I support, maybe. But this is how it should work:
Once everyday, at a certain time, a message will be sent that shows the current values of the cloud variables and who changed them last. It would look like this:

Cloud variable1 in Project1 was changed to ## by Username. 12:34:56 9/1/13
