(just an idea here not a complete breakthrough)
possibly add a block that would let you pause either everything, or all scripts (except the one you're using, of course) for that particular sprite (or backdrop), and then let it continue after a set amount of time. this block should be activated directly or if a (certain) broadcast is received.

EXAMPLES:

(when I receive message 1) (when I receive message 1)
(stop all and wait 5 secs) OR (stop scripts in this sprite and wait 5 secs)
(continue all) (continue scripts in this sprite)


something like that anyways
