What is the Scratch Team Doing?
Hello. I've gotten curious.
We all know Cloud lists are taking a lot of time to finish. What I'm curious about is what the Team is actually doing right now. I find it weird that they are clearly working on things–a bug report I put in was actually fixed quite quickly. We also know they're very relatively active on the forums, with many members helping out. We also know we get the updates in the Announcements forum.
But among all this, it seems like little gets done.
What are you guys working on? Are you still working on Cloud lists, or is that on the backburner? Scratch 2.0 was obviously such a big project that it's strange to see very little happen on it now that it's really out. Anything?
I think the main thing is that the Suggestions forum is so very desolate. Like, the Team doesn't comment very often around there. An example might be Bridge Variables. This suggestion clearly has a lot of support. I don't need it much, but clearly lots of us would like it. It seems like the Suggestions forum is more of a discussion ground for hypotheses than things that will ever come to fruition. I think that if the Team made comments on things like Bridge Variables and such that have a lot of support, we'd be able to know whether they'll consider it and we wouldn't just keep bumping up the supporter count without reason.
Come to think of it–The (User ID) block was quite valid, and there's some discussion on it now in the Suggestions. It would be very useful, as we could actually have reasonable space stored per user (10,240 potential users with ten possible states: 0-9) as opposed to the 256 minimum (Total possible length of a Cloud variable divided by total possible username length, then divided by two, and assuming we go by length rather than separating with 00) we can do by saving the whole username in one variable. It would be easy for the Team to re-add the block, I'm sure, but we don't know if they've even seen the suggestion, as there is no comment from the Team at the moment.

What is the Scratch Team Doing?
Most of the stuff we're doing is mostly internal as of this moment, like fixing bugs and such (check out the announcements page regularly if you want to hear updates on what we're doing). We're also working on a couple big projects, such as the student/teacher account system that would allow for better support for the schools who are using Scratch in their classrooms (a project that is very much long overdue for us).
As for the inquiry about cloud lists, cloud lists are on the backburner because we're still working out moderation issues with the current moderation issues we have with cloud variables.
As for the inquiry about certain popular topics like Bridge Variables that have a lot of support but have no ST member commenting on them yet - we have lot on our plate right now, it's not like we can give the yes/no answer on all suggestions that come by our way the minute they appear in the forums (keep in mind that one of the biggest influences on Suggestions is time and feasibility. What may seem like a “yes” now may end up being a “no” later, and vice versa).
