The Scratch Team, as I have heard, strongly discourages quote-chains as they take-up more bandwidth. I suggest a system that will detect and snip quote-chains if they're too long, replacing the offending text with a “show more” button to show the original posts (they will, in theory, only load if the user wants it to) that was quoted in the quote-chain.

Yes, I understand this would require the Scratch Community (including the Scratch Team) to mod DjangoBB again, but hey, if they can mod DjangoBB to include Scratchblocks, why not mod it to replace the quotes in quote-chains with “show more” buttons?

This is something we actually want to do: https://github.com/LLK/s2forums/issues/1182 Unfortunately, I don't think it's a priority at the moment, but it's definitely something we're concerned about.

On the old forums, they actually did have this (although instead of doing “show more”, it just automatically removed the innermost quotes after a couple). It would be nice to have, although the bandwidth isn't as big an issue as you think. Text takes up one or two bytes per character, while in contrast one image can take up to a million bytes (if it's high-quality). Even besides that, Harakou's icon (I just picked yours because it was the first one I could click on) takes up 20,370 bytes (and remember that we can have up to 25 of those per page, plus all of the signature images which are usually bigger). That's equivalent to 10185 characters of text if it is encoded using Unicode (which is the most likely).

My point of that above wall of text was to emphasize that bandwidth should not be the biggest concern, as text is usually minimal compared to the images.

Actually the better option is to treat quotes like code and make them scrollable.

Normally, when I'm about to post a long quote chain, I replace the post about 2 or 3 quotes above me (depending on how relevant/important they are to understand what I'm saying) with-
