I mean, considering that this has way more discussion and a rather nice mock-up, I'm inclined to leave it up. They were both made at around the same time. It's definitely worth considering more than just the age of the thread when deciding if something should be closed as a dupe.

Support?? I decided to read back on what 2015 me said and I think my reasoning back then wasn't correct. The background image most likely won't distract from the content, unless you're supporting gif backgrounds (which would be a bad idea).

I think the decision to add customizable profile wallpapers or not is if Scratch wants to look more uniform or more personalised. I would like to see this feature added, although it may give this website a late-2000s/early-2010s feel (which isn't necessarily bad, just stating).

AMENDMENT: I have an idea. I will only support this on the following conditions:

There should be an option to turn off the backgrounds. I don't want to be distracted by something I don't want to see.

GIFs should not be uploaded. Great way to crash Scratch if everyone starts using animated images.

There should be some “Report background” button.

I'll say that the first condition would be the most important for me. I don't want to see backgrounds, and they just distract you from the content. I know others would like to spice up their profile but I'd like the option to not see the background.

For the third condition, you can just report the user, stating that their background is inappropriate.

I support having this 9999999999999%, normal wallpaper is boring.

there would be 2 things about it.

1. a GIF cannot be uploaded, as it is a way to crash scratch.

and 2. if you find that a wallpaper is offensive, you will find at the top of the wallpaper, a report button that you can type in a short reason why you would like to report the wallpaper.

the button would look like the text at the bottom.

Oh no… I certainly do hope this custom background thing can be toggled. I'll never visit profile pages if this comes with no way to disable it…

100% Support! If you have no background for it, you could choose to have the default (how the background is now) background for your profile, or you could choose your profile pic as your background.
