When will the backup happen before public beta?

The public beta is in about 5 days.

When will you backup the 1.4 site and restore it to the beta site in preparation for the public beta?

If we have updated a project on the beta site since the last migration, will it be overwritten? (i.e. Adding a leader board to my tower defense game, etc.–I'll back it up locally just in case.)

We'll pull the dbase snapshot late tonight / early tomorrow morning.

That's a great question about edits to 1.4x projects. My bet is that they may be lost, but Sayamindu is handling the migration stuff. Best to backup, just to be safe.

Ah - checked with Sayamindu, and he says edits to projects already on the old site should stay.

But backing up never hurts.
