The BEST EVER Arcade Game - Now on scratch!
And that game is: Defender!
Haven't heard of it? Well, to find out a bit of background info, click here.
A few days ago I went to the Bradford media museum. As it turned out, they had a gaming lounge with pretty much everything from Xbox Kinect to Pong to Space Invaders. And somewhere between those lies Defender. I was instantly hooked, though I didn't understand the game play fully. To me, it was way better than Pac Man and Prince of Persia and Street Fighter and whatever else was in that lounge. There was nothing like it.
When I got home, I googled the game and found a disappointingly short wikipedia article and a few strategy guides. Despite this, however, the game was popular back in the day. The best guide I found (link) told me just how in-depth the game play was. I just had to port it to scratch. First, of course, I did a bit of market research, by searching scratch's website for other people's stuff. I found a good few games titled defender, but none of them were supposed to be the game I fell in love with. This was both good and bad, for it meant no competition, but less people must be interested in it.
So, work began. We're now at Alpha 0.8, and almost everything is in there.
There you are then. Have fun, comment, love, favorite.
