Is Scratch Selling Out...? #StopScratchsSellout #NoAiOnScratch

Tell me why I have been told that a TOS update has went ahead and added this in?

For section 8.2 says:

Limited License Grant. By Posting User Content to or via the Service, to the maximum extent of your rights to do so, including under applicable law, you hereby grant: (a) other users of the Service a non-exclusive license to use, reproduce, modify, and create derivative works of such User Content solely for personal use within the Service and subject to these Terms; and (b) us a non-exclusive, perpetual, irrevocable, royalty-free license (with the right to grant and authorize sublicenses) to publicly display, publicly perform (including by means of a digital audio transmission), reproduce, distribute, create derivative works of, and otherwise use and exploit the User Content to provide the Service, for internal business purposes, to advertise, market, and promote the service, and to otherwise improve our products and services and create new products and services, including through the training of AI models. You agree to pay all monies owing to any person or entity resulting from Posting your User Content and from our exercise of the license set forth in this Section.

And to try and decipher all the jargon:

8.2 - Other users can make derivatives and all that of your projects, I'm fine with that as long as they do it in good taste and responsibly without just copying it, However it also says that Scratch itself is allowed to use your projects without you being allowed to back out once you've signed this contract to publicly show off via audio or visual presentation, copy / recreate, give out, & More; However then there is the main issue I have that being the fact it makes it be so “and to otherwise improve our products and services and create new products and services, including through the training of AI models”

Now for my explanation, “and to otherwise improve our products and services and create new products and services, including through the training of AI models” is REALLY unfocused and could be interpreted as many things including using it to profit since technically they could just say: ‘Oh yeah we went ahead and sold your stuff to this AI company for training data so we could use that money to make the site better, And you can’t do anything because that's in the TOS" which is my main issue since to say the least I HATE GENERATIVE AI with every cell that makes my brain up and then-some hence why I am halting any and all interaction on this platform until I get answers from Scratch Team which is to put it simply:

1. Clear.
2. Completely and utterly honest to the highest degree legally allowed.
3. Not just simply a way to get out of controversy and instead a way to make it clear what this is all about.

But also I am DEMANDING a way to not have your content be used in any of this, And most importantly is my default opted out of and needs the user to manually opt-in and with those alterations being PERMANENT until the terms this would alter and all similar ones are gone.

As such I do also plan to make a video later on likely tomorrow to inform more people beyond Scratch if my humble asks are not met, So please answer me and help clear up all of this, Scratch Team.

- Asking Humbly, A Concerned Scratcher.

And also if this is taken down then I WILL make the video and WILL add that onto it and also it will confirm my concerns that this here site is moving away from educating and moving towards selling out, At which point there will be only one question left…

Whatever happened to the .edu at the end of scratch.mit.edu

Well, here’s the thing: From what I’ve read and researched about, that clause of the TOS is mostly to protect makers of AI (aka, the companies.) I believe that may be the likely reason, and I’ve done extensive research on the matter to help support that idea, but it is still impossible to know. A bit odd, but okay.
And then, if it comforts you, the Scratch Team seems to be leaning away from AI due to the extreme hate being given to it (although all that people have to go by is just speculation and inferences.) Many comments and forum posts from ST members seems to hint at them slowly halting the usage of AI.

Really? This again? I thought we were done with this outrage months ago. They aren’t training your projects to AI, they aren’t gonna use AI, and THEY AREN’T SELLING OUT.

Well… it is true that artificial intelligence (Ai) is starting to become more manipulative and predatory (like with the looksmaxxing trend for example, though it has nothing to do with the topic and has no relation to what the OP is referring to), and Ai has also proven itself on several instances that it came to be a threat to humans and creators who work hard on their art and their line of work and outweighs any and/or all benefits and pros.

But it does seem like the ST is looking to distance themselves from the use of Ai further. The agents have been going a tad bit “crazy” so to speak, as well as taking humans for fools (if I am understanding that correctly…) which in itself could be seen as a threat also. The companies that maintain and manage said Ai agents also have proven to us that they’ve lost control of their own models and intelligent artificial agents. I can see why they would want to do this, despite Ai having more capacities and capabilities than the average computer or PC.

Really though, it was quite the center of discussion for several months, so I agree. But what I don’t agree with or have a problem with is how little artificial intelligence gets talked about on the forums in general and conversations surrounding the usage of Ai currently.
Also, that’s a funny image lol.

they CAN use it for ai not WILL
they probably won't
also making a video spreads controversy
if they close this they have reason, it's not fit for the subforum and it's controversy-stirring
as stated above, they'd have reason to close this topic, so it isn't confirming anything
but ironically it will get turned into scratch.org i think

Why are more people making misinfo videos…
The training on ai part is ~currently~ right now to be confirmed to be trained on projects but “to show how kids can use ai content” which leads to believe it’ll ONLY be trained on projects that use scratch’s planned AI features(I lack the link though, someone else may have it, and if it’s wrong, that’s even better because it’s not (for now) happening!) (an eye for an eye right?). The ai features in question are all going to be local based (meaning it’s coded into the site rather than relying on data centers)
