Fast, Open, Free.
This is the dev group for Jupiter OS, an operating system designed by a small group of people looking to bring an operating system that is light, will run well on your computer, but also be able to do a lot.
Welcome to Jupiter OS, the Scratch OS based on everyone in mind. And by that, i mean you can use it on small computers with low hardware. There won't be much going on in the scratch project, meaning you can enjoy the operating system.
After about 3000 revisions, I've finally came up with a layout that can do this.
Originally thinking about some Ubuntu Unity environments, then going to Windows and even a hybrid Windows/Mac, i've come up with the perfect, innovative operating system. The sleek and original Jupiter.
I'm hiring people for jupiter- All artwork for the operating system that i have done will not be used… And jupiter is just a beta name. We'll think of the actual name once we're further on into development.
I'll join all categories just to see how everyone's getting on.
ARTWORK- 5 Needed
Sarger001
APP DESIGN- Unlimited amount of people needed, though all need to work on the same app at a time.
Sarger001
ClayChips
Firedrake969
TESTERS- We can have as many of these as possible. This is actually a pretty important job, making sure that Jupiter and it's apps can run on low end hardware and testing each app to make sure it's bug free.
Sarger001
OS Design- About 5 needed here, people that can develop stuff internal to the operating system and doing extra design stuff to menus.
Sarger001
PROGRAMMER- Programmes what everyone else doesn't. 5 people.

Lol when you say:
But yeah i'll make a few apps,
I thought that you meant a real operating system… operating system that is light, will run well on your computer, but also be able to do a lot.

Haha! I haven't got the skills to pull THAT off. But yeah, i'll add you. You could make some apps for this release that come preinstalled if you wanted, but i'll add an appstore next dev preview for you to add apps to that. Next dev build will be tomorrow or friday and will include
+Appstore
+System Settings
+New desktop background
-Removal of transparency in Menu- Serves no use and slows down system
I reccomend waiting until then unless you want to make internal preinstalled apps like a Music Player or something.

I'd love to join as a programmer/designer. Not meaning to spam, but if you need to check my qualifications, look at List OS II in my projects.

Ok, I don't use Ubuntu, so I can't really help there, but maybe we could improve the pull-out menu with more apps when the pullbar scrolls more, and have the key apps (app store, settings, etc.) on the main page, not the scrollbar. Oh, and can I be under app design?

Okey. I'll put you there.
The next build has been released.
It's mostly really buggy though, but there are some changes that will become mandatory and will be used in the next Developer Release
You can't close apps correctly. It just doesn't work.
Sometimes the Start App button opens at the press of the green flag. Again, i don't know why.
New, really bad, buggy looking desktop background.
Text is really bad and squashed in this build
NEW- New bootscreen, launching windows script included (Though unable to close).
You close the windows from the sidebar.
FIREDRAKE:
I'll put you under there and yeah, i'll put the main apps on the Desktop. Thing is though, the desktop in this is designed to look as clutter free as possible and as minimalistic as possible so it runs at a good speed on lower end hardware. I'll put those in once the next build comes out with App Downloading. However, the Launch Bar (As we are dubbing it) will have a installed apps button which brings up all your installed apps to the left of the screen.

Yeah
If we can work it in and make it fast, we'll do it. If we can't make it fast, we'll have to find another way to display more applications on Launch.
Yeah, i think scrolling would greatly increase the amount of icons that can be displayed in Launch, but how would it affect the speed of the operating system? It depends on what sort of scrolling you mean. Side scrolling or Vertical scrolling? my _test account is me.

Hmmm…. ok, I guess I'll take over, if that's ok.
Think of a few apps, simple, minimalist, and fast.
