Pros and Cons About The Reacting to Comments Idea
So lately I’ve been thinking about this: if we were able to press a button such as a thumbs up or heart on comments, that would be cool. Maybe even a simple smiley emoji. However, there are some pros and cons to this idea. (Theres already been topics about this, I’m just saying the pros and cons about this).
Pros:
1. A “heart” or “thumbs up” button would make it easier to show support for someone’s comment, helping create a friendlier community.
2. On projects or in studios, a quick thumbs-up could confirm that a user has seen a message or agrees with a task.
3. It would help constructive and helpful comments stand out from spam (such as “lol” or “cool”).
4. People who don’t want to write comments could still react, which may increase participation and encourage shy users.
Cons:
1. The Scratch Team would need to ensure reactions cannot be used for bullying or inappropriate behavior.
2. Some Scratchers may feel that having reactions on comments could make people focus too much on popularity, or feel discouraged if their comments receive few reactions.
3. It could lead to spam comments like “Like my comment or I will report you.”
4. Scratch already has emojis, so reactions might feel unnecessary to some users.
5. Reactions could be used to mock someone, especially beginners; however, this could be reduced by not adding laughing or negative reactions.
6. A thumbs up does not explain why something works or how to fix a bug.
7. Seeing low reaction counts on a question or comment could discourage people from posting.
Possible safeguards:
Limit reactions to positive options only (such as “thumbs up” and “heart”).
Allow project creators to disable reactions on their projects.
Hide reaction counts from public view.

Maybe instead of a thumbsdown we could have a red x?

Maybe instead of a thumbsdown we could have a red x?I don't think negative reactions are a good idea for this platform at all.
