Add in an old project protection clause
Many projects that would not have been shared if there was an ai are now going to be trained off of. It’s unfair to switch the tos and have it apply to the old projects without any sort of protection clause on them. There should be a clause legally added to the tos stating no projects shared before the update should be trained off of without permission of the creators, as they did not consent to this when they shared them.
Edit so this topic doesn’t get flagged as a dupe:
This is not an opt out topic!
This is not a “I don’t like the tos rewrite it” topic!
This is a new suggestion.

I love the way this is worded. I really do believe that scratch should do something like this as it feels like without it, it almost seems like a copyright issue. There is a fine line between AI training and just stealing. I hope this gets seen more!

I really think that there are good uses for AI… but taking our art without our consent is not good. (I don't really make art or anything, but I still do music outside of scratch and it would really suck if it just got stolen for some AI)

It’s glorified theft. There should 100% be an opt-out for ai training, it’s not fair to steal children’s creativity to leech off of it. They say it’s a safe space to be creative but they want to steal what we create.

EXACTLY. I find it so surprising that when it comes to other forms of copyright, everyone is so aggressive on protecting rights, but as soon as it's kid's work and just blatant theft, it's thought of as nothingMany projects that would not have been shared if there was an ai are now going to be trained off of. I do Support this, I don't really know how to explain this, but there's a bunch of projects made by users who left scratch, and I bet some of them don't even know about this or just don't want their old projects to be trained off.
(i'm sorry if I wrote this strangely, it's just this TOS update just came out of nowhere.)

I honestly just think it’s scary for them to be taking our art in the first place. We have worked hard for various days on /our/ creations and yet AI comes and feeds it into themselves, stealing not only our creativity but our free will. As much as I agree with what you’re trying to say, I also agree that this /never/ should’ve happened in the first place. This is a /kid’s/ website and I think stealing off of mostly literal minors isn’t the right example Scratch should be. People are leaving because of this.

This is honestly scary.. I mean- so many artists are being forced underground because they don't want their work copied off of or used for AI. This isn't helping scratch.. it's destroying it just like Roblox.
