Uhm I have no idea how long they've actually been working on 4.0 for??
Is this enough time

They already showed off an AI chatbot thing last Scratch Conference and it's fully functional (except for project searching)
If the chatbot does get added to Scratch, would there be a way to detect or log inappropriate messages sent to it?

I doubt they will/can even make an AI because they can't fix the Scratch Indexing problem.
Realistically, they're just going to use a premade LLM
pre-trained llms are not exactly out of the box. they still need hundreds of computer-hours to make them usable for most people.

EDIT:

All LLMs have vulgar content detectors. These messages aren't usually moderated, however.

The more important thing is to ensure that the LLM doesn't send vulgar content back like that early version of CoPilot.

Scratch 4.0

it's supposed to come out late 2026 or sometime in 2027 in celebration of scratch's 20th anniversary, and it's been officially revealed. We have some clue to when it'll come out, but that's not positive. Things happen sometimes, so who knows what'll happen.

I wasn't aware that it has been officially revealed on the Scratch website. (e.g. the forums)
I don't think a paragraph in two random job listings, not linked to on the Scratch website really counts.

That should be fake, IE 6.0 doesn't support Scratch. Also, don't be off-topic…

I feel like the implementation of AI into Scratch should be smaller, because although it might be great for ideas and script help, I don't really want it to completely generate projects. I mean, look what has happened with ‘slop’ elsewhere…

But the “re-imagined online community” just makes me more curious about it.

I feel like I've seen ST members mention it or at least some mention on the forums, but I could be wrong

Really? I am… intrigued on whether or not the AI features will ruin the platform.

It was in a Scratch Conference as a live demo

scratch should not do AI, scratch should do creativity, AI does not support older systems like Windows vista and older.

I assume it would all run natively within the project and would not have to do with your operating system, but I may be wrong. Also, i think projects with the limited AI capabilities would quickly become boring and would not mess up everything if the AI is the simple version shown in scratch lab

I'm sure it's entirely possible to make an AI client work on Windows Vista, and the AI experiments that they've done that are either planned or not explicitly rejected don't seem that harmful to creativity

For the first part, I think I've seen someone do it for Windows 7 and 8. Also, all the people on Vista/XP on Scratch currently that I've seen are using browsers that should load AI fine

Given the contents of the new ToS, it is safe to assume that 4.0 will see the release of the worst, most AI-ridden version of Scratch in history.

How are you running Scratch on NT 3.1? That's from the 1990s.
