There are a few possibilities here:

This is ragebait
You have not played any 3D Sonic game, and you're just going off what other people have said
You've played a 3D Sonic game, you weren't good at it, and are blaming the game

I do not believe you have played every 3D Sonic game, given them a fair shake, and then come to the conclusion that all of them are bad. In the event you have, please explain why these games failed at bringing Sonic into 3D and why the 2D games were better.

I'm sure both Sonic 2 and 3 are mainline games.
