Scratch 4.0
I think AI should be in Scratch 4.0 because AI is DOMINATING so far in the 2020’s.I found a blog article by @mres from July with an old prototype of the CLA, as well as a prototype of AI powered ‘AI Blocks’, being:Oh, hey! That's cool! I found the hidden url: https://lab.scratch.mit.edu/ai-blocks/ask AI () and wait ::extensionhttps://mres.medium.com/in-the-age-of-ai-we-need-a-human-centered-society-more-than-ever-0be3449ad40e
(AI response ::extension)
set system prompt () ::extension
It shows the CLA being used on the rest of the site as well as the editor, and also expresses some of the concerns that the community now has.
I tried this out, and the AI would never respond, and Scratch would just highlight the block where the AI is supposed to return something, and it would stay on that forever. Can anyone else tell me if the AI blocks are working for them?

Scratch 4.0
Me personally it's kind of a mix of yeah and no-snip-I think AI should be in Scratch 4.0 because AI is DOMINATING so far in the 2020’s.
When it comes to generative AI I'm usually not the kind of person to support it because of its environmental risks (cite: air pollution in Memphis + certain AI use up drinking water which even then is only just a really small portion of the water on Earth at this point) and stuff like that but if I'm being honest; it could help with advanced chatbots and stuff provided some measures are put in place
Although people do have to remember that generative AI in its most recent form is still a new topic and it's obviously still imperfect (“hallucinating” fake information). If AI blocks do get added to Scratch I want there to be a warning along the lines of “AI can get information wrong, make sure to fact-check” so that then people who use said blocks know
Also imo just because something is popular doesn't mean it should be the sole reason as to why it should be added

Wait… HOW DID I MISS THIS?!Info from another job description on scratchfoundation.orgGood to know “Scratch is defining… learning”. The Merriam-Webster definition is so outdated. (That was sarcasm for those of you who couldn't tell, btw)

Scratch 4.0
In the 2024 annual report (released today), the message from Scratch's President/CEO has this:I think Scratch 4.0 should come in late 2026 although I’m not too sure about that.As we look ahead to Scratch 4.0 and our ambitious goal to reach the next 100 million children by 2027, …
Also, 4.0 was teased earlier in a Scratch job application section (which can't be linked because it indirectly leads to filling out contact information):In 2025, we’re responding to this growth by focusing on three strategic priorities: developing the new Scratch 4.0, with a re-imagined online community and creative AI; amplifying the impact of Scratch through our programs and research; and developing a robust business model to ensure a sustainable future for the software and the Foundation.
It was announced back in April that AI would be added to Scratch, so it seems 4.0 may be coming in the not-so-distant future. Any thoughts?

also how does WinXP Work on scratch??? it's also pretty smooth, also fastThat should be fake, IE 6.0 doesn't support Scratch. Also, don't be off-topic…
I feel like the implementation of AI into Scratch should be smaller, because although it might be great for ideas and script help, I don't really want it to completely generate projects. I mean, look what has happened with ‘slop’ elsewhere…
But the “re-imagined online community” just makes me more curious about it.

AI put into Scratch will diminish the platform's coding skills, with the entire website filled with projects solely created with AI. Trending flooded with projects made in 1 minute. AI implemented into Scratch is a horrible idea, even if it's just to debug, it can still be abused to make a game easily.

I doubt they will/can even make an AI because they can't fix the Scratch Indexing problem.

They already showed off an AI chatbot thing last Scratch Conference and it's fully functional (except for project searching)

As in AI chatbot you mean one you can communicate with about personal topics that are not related to the website? If so this will need many restrictions so their couldn't be a lawsuit if something were to happen.
