Don't we already have enough division in real world? Like, the monopolies and everybody else at the bottom?

I feel like this new update falls under a rejected suggestion

The Official List of Rejected Suggestion wrote:

8.2 Add a rank above Scratcher or allow users to skip the New Scratcher status
There are three ranks: New Scratcher, Scratcher, and Scratch Team. The only reason the New Scratcher rank exists is to prevent spam, and since it only takes a few weeks to become a Scratcher, bullying and separation are rather minimal. Similarly, the Scratch Team rank exists so users know who is on the Scratch Team; note that Scratch Team members do not brag about the Scratch Team rank. In contrast, there may be division in the community between Scratchers and those with a higher rank, which could also lead to bragging and bullying. This also includes a “verified Scratcher” status where well-known Scratchers get a special symbol next to their name.

This is what we've been saying. Also, it's not “next to their name” but it's still on their profiles and is very noticeable and everywhere else with the cat ears, and I feel it should stay rejected.

Let's just wait until Paddle or someone else on ST has to say about this.

Tolors mentions this:

Note that un-rejecting a suggestion is up to the discretion of the Scratch Team. So, please do not make any posts in the “Suggestions” forum asking that the Scratch Team “rethink” a rejected suggestion unless you are giving a solution to the problem that caused the feature to be rejected.

I also have to add, absolutely no extra measures/features were implemented to prevent the scenario described in the rejection from happening. The ST has completely ignored the reason that ranks and such are rejected in favor of adding the membership's cosmetics. This should be addressed as soon as possible.

Can you please snip quoting YellowSheep? It'll end up with the page being cluttered. Again.

Okay ew, this really looks bad and doesn't fit at all most of the time. I support because this looks extremely out of place and obnoxious.

Yeah I feel like someone from the Scratch Team or another member should elaborate on all of this, including the stuff in the FAQ.
I'd like a skeuomorphic theme, dark mode, and colorblind modes (modes for each type of colorblindness/color vision deficiency type) available to everyone (not just members) though for accessibility too (I know there was the high contrast mode and purple, but those didn't work for everyone and the pastel colors didn't make it that much easier for colorblind people to see).

I totally agree with this. When I saw that they were adding a membership thing, I was like “oh cool, you get a few cool items irl and that's that”

but as soon as I saw “Member” next to this guy's username, I was a little disappointed. I actually suggested a “Veteran” rank after scratcher, for being on scratch for 10 years or more, but it was rejected for the reason that “it makes another rank above the default scratcher” which is exactly what this membership is. ST, I am begging you. Remove this. If you believe in anything you believed in before, remove this.

100% agreed. Membership overall should be removed! Scratch is turning into a for-profit organisation. These badges and cat ears are awful and create division

TOLORS wrote:

7.18 Remove the Scratch Membership
The Scratch Membership is a recurring donation tier intended to encourage people to donate to the Scratch Foundation in exchange for certain perks. This donation tier is necessary to help ensure that the Scratch editor and website remain free and accessible to everyone. In particular, the price of the membership is up to the discretion of the Scratch Foundation's business team.

This extends to hosting recurring fundraisers in place of the Scratch Membership; for more information, see this post. Compared to the Scratch Membership, the resources required to organize such fundraisers are substantial; it is not worth allocating these resources toward fundraisers since these are not a consistent recurring stream of donations.

However, the Scratch Team is open to suggestions about other forms of recurring donations, in addition to feedback about how to improve the current Scratch Membership.

this genuinely makes me so upset…
Edit: the membership is fine, the titles and stuff are what make me upset

sad

also it says that “This donation tier is necessary to help ensure that the Scratch editor and website remain free and accessible to everyone.” which is lies, scratch has been fine for nearly 20 years without it

are the cat ears even togglable?
apparently they sort of are, via not linking your scratch account to the membership (so this means you won't get cat blocks either, but browser extensions exist anyways).
