No, there's probably just hardly any discussion because it's summer for many people. People are on computers less
I for one, spent time on here during school, so I don't have much of a reason to be here often now that it's summer for me

I kinda support this suggestion. On one hand the username change and everything sounds awesome, but the “was (username)” thingy is a bit worrying cause what will it look like? Will it be on the profile only or in comments also?

Likely profile only, because on comments and forum posts it would feel awkward. I also think that it should only show when you hover over the username. Like this: Let’s say that a user called “User” changed their username to “Example_123”. It would show as just “Example_123” when I’m not hovering over the username. When I am hovering over it, it would show as something like “Example_123 (old username: User)”.

I just found this topic by digging through the topics I posted in since the was the searching method I came up with. I think that instead of a direct redirect, it should be a screen saying something like “The user Example has changed their username to Example_User. Would you like to head there instead?” with a link included.

I should mention that I think that a changing username (or even just display name) feature is needed because making a new account and transferring your projects is essentially starting over. Not from scratch, but close, because you lose your followers and other project stats like comments.

Support! My friend once had to make a new user even after passing 3000 followers (I have 2370 smthin) because they became an animator about 2 months after they created their account. They became super popular however their username was I think something with kitties and wizards. Yip support. On their new account they named it like other animators with Toons. They're getting close to re-reaching 3000, just like 300 away or smthin.

So support unless you want all your progress to be GONE!

Also, I support this because it's a good idea. I hate the username I made like 3 years ago because I thought username meant email, so I put half of my email for my username, and then I realized you could do anything, and now I'm so annoying because it's so bad. Plus, in my new user name, I could just do like wei04787lovescats or something, which is so similar.

I also only support this suggestion if, like for the first month of u changing ur username, it would always say in parentheses (was -ur original username-).

I think redirects should not be inserted when a username is inappropriate. It could lead to site drama and/or filter bypassing (in mentioning).

First of all, it could be used to incriminate them, spread propaganda/rumors, and associate them with the inappropriate content.

And replies have the username of the replied comment stated in them after replying. It becomes part of the comment, and isnt editable before posting.

The redirect should still be there, but there shouldn’t be something showing their old username on their profile.

Keep in mind that inappropriate usernames can have (and are mainly requested to be changed because they have): personal information, banned topics, a person someone no longer wants to associate themselves with, or inappropriate words.

And if old usernames had redirects, then someone would know the old username once they found it.
