yeah i only figured that out like 2 years ago
a slider is WAY easier for little kids to find

Yes, this workaround exists, but as you said it's complicated, and it is pretty difficult to get a specific transparency value with this workaround.
Yes, browser extensions exist that add this, but not everyone has access to them (i.e. people using Scratch on a school computer), and you aren't allowed to mention the name of said browser extensions on the site.

This is something that would be very very helpful for a large number of users, and I fully support this suggestion.
