It's gonna nearly as bad as ads.
It's a simple comment, just scroll past it. Plus, you can always report them.
Furthermore, these comments aren't abundant on other platforms. It's been years since I've seen a YT comment begging for likes. So there probably won't be as many of these comments as you think.
Well the top comment of about 30% of the video's I've seen in the last week have some kind of comment that directly or indirectly asks for attention. And the problem is that they end up taking up the top comment space which could have been taken by something nicer or more informative.

If upvoted comments start ending up at the top of comment sections here, then creators are gonna have to delete it because no one wants the most popular comment of there hard worked game to be “I'll do one pushup for every upvote”.

Even if it is not common -which will likely not be the case based off the fact that this place is for literal children-, the fact that it WILL happen and annoy many creators even more than ads (that at the very least don't plague the top of the comments forever without manual deletion) should outweigh any benefits.

The most positive thing that could come of this suggestion that I can think of is that (sometimes) informative info could be kept up at the top of the comments. But it's unlikely that enough people could come together to actually support something useful. Instead of something purely funny (not useful) or even offencive (not likely but having tons of people see a humiliating comment and only realising it weeks later would be terrible).

That or upvoting doesn't bump comments and it's just better to say you agree and think the comment is smart instead of clicking some random button.
i think of it like people on scratch asking to be noticed or followed by big scratchers and commenting on their profile. if we do get upvoting, it would just be so much simpler, and c'mon, you can't just think people are THAT hopeless.

People asking to be followed by bigger scratchers is annoying. Spending time and effort to get thousands of followers is hard, and then having people spam “follow me pls!11!!!!” instead of fun or helpful things is frustrating for many talented scratchers.

Also how would upvotes even help this process? Like, do you expect people to actually help others contact the successful?

Not only is it not beneficial for the helper in any way, but it's basically supporting another form a spam. Ads and inappropriate bot messages are already very annoying and damaging (this comes from someone who has been affected many times by the second one), but actively supporting another kind of spam is just adding more to a bad situation.

scratch comments are ordered by which one was most recent, not most popular. if we had hearts/stars for comments, people would recognize that and probably not beg for likes. after all, people beg for likes on yt because they'll be popular and one of the first comments you see. if they are ordered chronologically, people wouldn't be begging.

If upvotes wont make the comment more popular like it does with projects, then just say you agree to the comment manually. It's just as easy and means much more.

i find that not true; saying “yeah i agree” on every single comment you agree with will be seen as spam, being blocked from posting the reply, or the horde of messages you get. hearts/stars for comments are simpler, and illustrate the same meaning. you see more people liking comments than replying with “i agree” on yt, yes?

Sorry if I worded it badly, one thing I've been meaning with these statements is that a like isn't very meaningful. It doesn't promote the comment in any way. And isn't very constructive. And I never meant just spamming “I like this comment” or something. I meant that if you really like what someone said then complement them and point out how smart they are or something.

But honestly it's still better to just not do anything or say something actually constructive at this point.

On top of this, likes on comments seem nice. But comments that get popular, or are the last comment on a popular project that's comment section got closed (which happens a lot cause ads) might just end up getting spammed with likes that don't mean much. It'll be a bit like ads, it seems nice for a lot of people but either does nothing or annoys many others.

And even if none of this does happen, it's better for the ST to spend there resources on addings other things like the dark mode or fixing bugs like the frozen trending page. Spending time implementing this will just add something that will fill many people's inboxes with even more junk, while only maybe helping some other people minimuly and taking away precious development time.

Personally, I think having upvotes (not “Likes”) would make it easier to see how many Scratchers support the comment
