Could the Guardians movies be considered musicals?
No. They cannot, even if the music is digetic it is not sung by the characters.
By that definition, Tarzan isn't a musical. If we consider Tarzan one, we have to consider the Guardians movies musicals.
I haven’t seen Tarzan, no IMDb doesn’t class it as a musical.

Is Spider-Verse a musical? Is Baby Driver a musical? Is 2001 a musical? Is Deadpool and Wolverine a musical?
The difference with Guardians is that it uses the songs to directly carry forward emotional beats (Dog Days Are Over), plot points (Ooh Child), and the themes of the film (The Chain). From the one's I've seen, the other ones just use them to accent the movie.

Yeah that’s just using needle drops effectively.

If a musical was a legendary space opera that includes Star-Lord whipping up some good moves listening to David Bowie I’d probably prefer it to the Sound Of Music

I mean he never dances to David Bowie in the trilogy, Moonsge Daydream is used during the Knownere set piece in Vol. 1 but never a dance sequence.

“It feels, in a lot of ways, like a love letter to the entire genre of superhero movies. And I think there’s something really fun about that.” - Simu Liu on Avengers: Doomsday

If it's a love letter, then where are Morbius and Madame Web?

Genuinely, putting Morbius and Madame Web in this movie would save the MCU.* It would be the first actually interesting choice this franchise has made in a long time.

*It would also kill it because Jared Leto kills everything he touches, but that doesn't matter right now.

Again, Madame Web appearing in this movie is the only thing that would genuinely surprise me.

The MCU right now lacks a lot of connective tissue. Doomsday has the impossible task of bringing together all the disparate elements Marvel has introduced across the past 3 Phases, while also serving as a farewell to the extremely beloved stars of X-Men: The Last Stand. That's not even mentioning how it has to set up Secret Wars and the future of the MCU as a whole. But what if there was something that already connected those things? Something that connects all these movies and TV shows. What if Madame Web was the key to the finale of the Multiverse Saga? She must be, right? She's the only option. It's the only thing that could possibly connect these. Her web connects them all.

I know it’s mostly a joke but not to mention that Doomsday also will serve as fanservice towards Phase 3 of the mcu.
