Different Types of Collaborations ➨ A Guide
Hello!I'm MakeTheBrainHappy and I wanted to clarify all of the different types of collaborations with you! This way, you'll know which collaboration is right for you to join, based off of your interests and skills. If any has suggestions for more categories, feel free to post them below!
I'm a Collaboration Owner/Leader- How do I categorize my collaboration?- This is based off of what your collaboration does most of the time. So if you make a lot of animations, then you fit under the animation category. If your collaboration does multiple things, then you may fit under multiple categories.
Animations- In an animation collaboration, the goal of the project is to create an animation, or a lots of moving characters/sprites to create a small little story. Animations are like little movies that can last 1-2 minutes.

Art- In an art collaboration, many artists collaborate to create a masterpiece. That said, many artists and art collaborations occur in the requests forum, where they can create art that's useful to the community. They can also work on organizing MAPS.

Community- Community Collaborations are collaborations which work to betterment of the community. Many of these are sponsored by the Scratch Team, and they have various goals. A popular community collaboration is the Scratch Design Studio. There are also many community collaborations that focus on helping new scratchers. These collaborations require active, friendly, and dedicated scratchers.

Game- One of the most popular type of collaborations, game collaborations exist with the purpose of creating a game. They usually work on one main project, such as a scroller or a platformer. A collaboration account used by multiple people is not allowed, but you can use such an account for branding (see this post for more details). Therefore there are two ways to collaborate effectively. Either, every member creates a little piece, and the owner puts it together (or another member) OR Each member adds to the project by remixing it, and they continue to remix it until it is complete. These collaborations require Artists, occasionally animators, programmers, managers, occasionally voice actors, and advertisers.

Music- Music Collaborations focus on creating musical pieces. They are more commonly found in the requests forum, where they can help the community. Music Collaborations require musicians and occasionally artists.

Newspaper- This type of collaboration comes in various shapes and sizes. The main idea of a newspaper collaboration is to create and author an issue of news. These get published routinely normally every week, two weeks, or every month. That said there are many other publishing agendas. The topics of these Newspaper vary widely. Some newspaper publish about scratch-related subjects, while other's venture beyond scratch. They are very open-ended and are good for anyone who enjoys writing factual pieces. They require Journalists, reporters, artists, and management.

OS- The Operating System Collaboration focuses on creating an operating system in a project on scratch. An Operating System is what you are using to navigate and control your computer. Window, Mac, and Linux are all examples of operating systems. These projects usually include painting, document, games, camera, and occasionally cloud chat applications. They require Artists, programmers, idea creators, management, and advertisers.

Programming- The Programming Collaborations widely focus on using different programming languages, such as Python, C++, and Java. They create games and code with these applications to sometimes enhance scratch. These collaborations require advanced programmers and occasionally artists.

Role-Playing- Role Playing Collaborations start off a main storyline and then develop it with characters and ideas. The members create characters, and then Role Play (usually in a studio) and act out different scenes. The members are allowed to role play however they want, and this creates an interesting maze of excitement and drama. Roleplaying collaborations are not allowed to role play in the forums. All you really need to join one is a little bit of creativity!

Shop- These mostly populate the requests forum, and offer services, usually for free, to the general scratch public. These include reviews, art, scripting, BBCode, and a whole range of other topics. For more information on shops visit my other guide here.

Story- Story Collaborations usually begin at a central plot and then write a story based around it. There goal is to usually write a book or a longer story. They are constrained in their creativity because they must all agree about how the book flows, and it is more of a group effort. It is also all in one place where you can read it. These collaborations require Writers, Thinkers, and occasionally Artists.
