Changing username suggestion (LESS CONFUSING ALTERNATIVE)

I understand the Scratch Team declined changing usernames, because it would be confusing. –BUT, if it said something like:
“Formally known as PorousBird5034”, next to their name or under it, this would be less confusing. Just a suggestion.

Are you saying if you move to a new account, that text would appear on your profile?

No. He's making a solution to a rejected suggestion.

No I was suggesting that there could be a feature that allows you to change your display name, but it shows your previous name under your new name.

But if you do it so much in a short amount of time, it can create community confusion. Is there a cooldown to this, and how many times can they do this per account?

We're not opposed to the suggestion of adding a “Formally known as {username}” for username changes, but do be aware that username changes are not easy to do on a large scale due to server resource and the way the data is set up, so it won't really change the policy of not allowing for username changes except under exigent circumstances.

There are also times where people first registered with their real names. For example. Here are 2 cases.

Let’s say..

Case 1: John Smith registers an account known as JohnSmith21 and then decides to change his user to JohnthePro because the old one showed his real last name. If this feature was added, he would have a “Formally known as JohnSmith21” under his actual username.

Case 2: Lily used to be a man when she registered her account. Since her account has a masculine name, she goes to change it to something feminine to ease her gender dysphoria. If this feature was added, the dysphoria would come back.

Would you want your old username to be shown? That would defeat the purpose of a username change performed by the Scratch Team.

It’s like a deadname. It’s meant to be no longer used.

in such a case, the ST changes the username. So the user can approach the ST to get it removed.

If you are looking for an account, and you know the username but the user decideds to add a display name, it might make it hard to search for specific users. So no support, sorry, I really like this idea but it would make a lot of confusion in Scratch. I could see this being used for animators who have a really weird name like “ainotape14a”, and I'd love to give support but I would hate to give Scratchers and New Scratchers a wave of confusion with this update;
