what “hack thingy”? can you elaborate?

It's where you feature a project, unshare it, and then the thumbnail is still up there.

Here's what you should try:

Make your banner on a project and share it, then open another tab and go to your profile. Click on change featured project and select the banner, but don't click on feature yet! Go back to the project page and unshare the project, then you can feature the project.

This should work!
