Can we have a rating on Scratch?

Hi everyone.

Sometimes, I bump in a project very violent, with free cruelty and kills of animals and a lot of blood, body part explosion, etc… I know it's only virtual, but I just wanted to know
if there's a limit, since very young children are on Scratch with the adults thinking it's completely safe, limits in violence, or nudity (by example, are we allowed to do a biology project with nudity, etc…?)
Can we have a rating on Scratch? It could give a true liberty to author, and prevent kids to see violent things.

Another thing: Once, I flagged a project because the characters said, {description removed by moderators}, it schocked me, so I flagged it, and I had a reply that, if I flagged projects for nothing, I will be banned from Scratch, It schocked me, because I had no chance to give my reasons.

a rating? do you mean a rating system like youtube, with the thumbs up or down?

the problem with that is that anyone who thumbs down on a good project that took the creator years to make will truely disappoint the creator.

and if anyone sees a project with millions of thumbs up and their project with 1 thumbs up and the rest downs, again, the sadness can get overwhelming.

i think flagging something is a better option because flagging takes about < 3~4 days to process, but if you want to remove a project just with a rating system, it may take a while for people to thumbs down and eventually remove a project from Scratch.

It looks to me that they're asking for a rating system like: G, PG, PG-13, R, NC-17

I think all you have to do is flag it. Scratch is made to all ages, this kind of project is not allowed.

Another thing is, we'll have to confirm our age to view certain projects (PG-13, R, etc.), and even so some Scratcher could, as KrIsMa put it, fake their age, allowing to bypass the age-restrictions and get themselves in a whole world of trouble. And to think Scratch would have R-rated projects is beyond me.

wait what ? You mean to say that a ST/mod thought {removed by moderator} was not at all inappropriate ? (scratch for all ages remember ?)

This is an interesting piece of information…

or… ammo?

Nope. Scratch is made for people of all ages. This shouldn't be implemented because the site is supposed to be friendly and fun.

Actually come to think of it,Some stuff are not G.

So a rating would be good.

Report it, and if it gets sent again, report your own post on the forum, and tell them why you reported it if you don't get a chance to say why– that is inappropriate for scatch.

If a project is reported, the ST sometimes does an invisible NFE (Not For Everyone) rating which means the project can't be front-paged.

Scratch Animated Rating Board: Y, Y7, G, PG, F(Flagged)
Scratch Software Rating Board: 4, 6+, 10+, 13+, 15+, F(Flagged)

It would sound good if this was a REALITY.

This is what I mean:
The Scratch Team wrote a message saying that the flagger,(in this case the topic owner) would be banned from Scratch if he/she flagged a project for nothing.
That is what I mean.

@joshuaho
Exactly.

I just saw a studio with {description removed by moderator. If you see an inappropriate image on the Scratch website please report it to the Scratch Team} I hesitate between send a message to this studio owner to remove his thumbnail, but I through, as he seems to be in his rebel 10's, he certainly will
say I'm not a moderator, so, I have to close my mouth, and so, I took the risk to flag it. If he removes his thumbnail before the Scratch team sees it,
I certainly will have one more warning about flagging projects or studio for nothing.

Not only {removed} allusion disturbs me, but also some projects with free killing of animals, a “kill all the kitten” kind of project. I'm not disturbed by blood, it's just pixels, but by the cruelty, fake or not, as long as it is a game, it's ok, but free cruelty is perturbating.

Well, you've got a reason for doing that FLAG. Some people just don't know any better and think it's just awesome to deny such violent acts and getting flagged. PLUS getting flagged many times and denying them makes a person feel invincible, When they are certainly NOT! How rude/cruel is the Scratch Community nowadays!?

Do you still have the message? Is it ok if I see it? (You don't have to show the message if you don't want to). That way, I will know what is going on and if the Scratch Team really misunderstood.
