How could it cause deadnaming? It's a choice for the user if they want their original name to be there.
I SAW THIS A MONTH LATE I AM SO SO SORRY
well for example your dead name is “aster” and your username is @astercool, but after transitioning it has become a deadname with your old gender/identity so you switch to a new name, like “chrissy” for example. but then you might not want to make a new account since @astercool has a lot of awesome things on it, and it doesn’t necessarily fit into the “gender dysphoria” category i dont think st will change it for you

easy solution: make chrissy your nickname and ask people not to refer to you by your username

well, does the username lavender-snail give gender dysphoria, it doesn't even have “girl” or “name” on it.

You could literally just explain in the request to change your username that “aster” was your old name, but you changed your name though

username changing is a bit unnecessary but I understand gender dysphoria and plus if it (somehow) had personal information in it is a good idea but I think it it was added you should have to send a request, I don't really see much against the display names as long as you can still access their actual user name easily (ex: under the display name it shows the users username on their profile or on a comments section) it seems fine from my perspective

it is a bit unnecessary because scratch lived for 10ish years without this and no one complained

oh my god this point was made so long ago i forgot my reasoning

transitioning is the process of changing from one gender to another iirc

it doesn’t but i’m referring to a specific example yeah

if it has gender dysphoria or personal info scratch team can change the username for you, display names are just like, for fun and self expression

I think so, since you can actually request a username change if it causes gender dysphoria, has personal info, or was blocked for being inappropriate, so you could just explain that in the request.

Support, but if a Scratcher wants to stay with his username (or display name same as username), then the display name won't show to take up less space.

Support, because display names are a good alternative to changing usernames. Should spaces be allowed too?

yeah, spaces count as special characters and i believe nicknames should support those

I also hate the whole rejection system. it sucks that if something was rejected at ANY point in time it will NEVER EVER be reconsidered

That is not true. A pi (mathematical constant) block used to be on the rejection list, but at some point it was removed from the rejection list, and I’m pretty sure there’s a topic for it.
