A Scary Thought About the new Thumbnail feature...

I am worried that there will be another “April 25th” incident that will happen, and since you can just set the thumbnail and delete the picture, I don't know if it would be safe or not. I had this thought since it was first introduced, and now that I remember how to post, I would like to bring attention to it.

Could you clarify, what exactly you're suggesting and what you mean by “April 25th incident"? - I'm having a bit of trouble understanding.

On April 25th, there was a man's ding-a-ling on trending, and recently, on the recent tab (that got removed) had gifs of women and men and “white stuff.” I just dont want it to happen again.

Thanks for clarifying, though I think the problem here is that thumbnails on the trending page are still visible after the project is taken down.
I'm not sure how the set thumbnail button would change/worsen the problem of inappropriate images on the trending page. - Maybe it would help explaining why you think that, so we can better understand your suggestion?

This point was brought up in previous topic - If the project is still shared, you should just silently report the project and say that the thumbnail is inappropriate. Before the update, you could also change thumbnails of projects while they were on the trending page. - So this wouldn't make things less-safer or harder to moderate. As already mentioned, I think the problem here is that thumbnails on trending are still visible after the project is taken down. Also, trending is currently frozen so there's a possibility ST is working on a way to fix this issue.

Prior to the implementation of the thumbnail button, people would use hack-y ways to set a custom thumbnail or moving GIF images, such that it wouldn't match the project content. So, this problem isn't new. We would just need people to report the project to say that the thumbnail is inappropriate, then moderators would check (and remove the project of the thumbnail if inappropriate) as per usual.

Custom thumbnails were already possible with a sprite and browser extensions, and this new button doesn't make it much easier than it already was. Those trending projects from earlier were very likely unrelated to custom thumbnails alone (given one of those trending projects were unshared at the time, making it impossible to report)
