Like, seriously, I don't want to have my projects AUTOMATICALLY set to the plainest background ever!!
I would LOVE an option to revert the thumbnail system back to the old one where it updated every time you saved the project. I keep forgetting the button exists.

At first, I thought it would be a helpful addition to help me, but NO. Every project I shared since then I FORGOT IT WAS THERE. I would prefer not to be annoyed further. If you also are annoyed, help get the Scratch Team to realize that they slipped up BIG TIME and share your very own crashout

I think after some time we'll get used to the button being there. Whenever I set a thumbnail, I always tried to make sure the thumbnail was perfect before saving anyway. In fact, it's now helpful that I can edit/save my project without worrying about re-setting the thumbnail.

but I agree, maybe thumbnails should still automatically update on save, AND the button should still update the thumbnail after saving.

unfortunately the ‘set thumbnail’ button was implemented because setting thumbnails every time a project is saved is very expensive.

i also agree that the button exposes a bit too much complexity, especially since most users probably actually do want to have thumbnails set automatically. but if this is saving the scratch foundation a lot of money, i think it's a fair compromise (and provides a feature that some scratchers find useful).

I agree with what you say, and maybe there can be a toggle somewhere to change whether you want the old system, new system, or both.

All you have to do is click that button when your finished making your game to set the thumbnail.

That's a good suggestion tbh. Maybe setting on saves was costly and annoying, but setting on shares actually makes sense.

WHY IS THE BUTTON BLUE ITS SUPPOSED TO BE PURPPLE I don't care tho because blue scratch was better
