Daily #2: (word count:409)
Hiya Mabel!!! I’m teddy, and it’s nice to meet you!!! This is my first SWC session, so take my advice with a grain of salt, I may not 100% know what I’m yapping about (XD).
To start with your first stated goal, I think reaching your word goal is a pretty standard, and reachable goal, for anyone who tries. Given that you’re a cabin leader, I’d assume that this will be a pretty reachable goal for you. But of course we all have our down days, where writing may be difficult, making the idea of reaching that goal may seem somewhat tedious, so if it ever seems this way, you can always come to me. I know you don’t really know me, but I will always gladly give advice, and encourage you from the sidelines, as you race to your goal of 10k words. Plus, dailies are always there to help,l you get your goal up.
I’m not *exactly* sure what the weeklies consist of, but it seems to be something somewhat difficult to complete. (Seeing as it’s something a lot of people seem to be using in their goals) I think, that if you truly put your mind to it, you could definitely do two weeklies, and possibly even more. Plus, more writing equals more words for your first goal!!!
Wow. I think this goal is literally amazing, and is such a fun way to expand your knowledge. Writing something in a genre that you haven’t written in before, can seem daunting, and can be found as harder than writing in a genre that you’re more familiar with, but I KNOW you can do it! And I’m positive you’ll absolutely CRUSH ITTTT. (Plus more words for that first goal lol)
I feel 15 is a very good number of dailies! Doing them for at least half the month! And moreee words for that goaaalllll!!!! If you ever need someone to yell at you to get give dailies in, I’m here lol.
All in all, I’m not too great at giving others advice, but I really hope this helps at least a little bit. You seem like an amazing individual, and I’m most certain you can get those words in, complete those weeklies and dailies, and even write in that new genre!!! Good luck on trying to beat these goals, and remember- don’t give up! You’re the only one who can prevent yourself from achieving these goals!
Sincerely,
-Teddyyy-

Dear Snowy,
Hi. Um. I'm Lune. This is a motivational letter. It will probably sound cheesy. But everything is true. :3
1. I would start working on your piece, pretty early and go slowly, maybe do the critiuqaire (sorry I think I spelled that wrong). Just put out something you're proud of. Doesn't matter if it doesn't win anything. So long as you're proud of it. (See? Super cheesy. I told you.)
2. I would suggest setting a goal for like, how much you want done by the end of the month, or the week, or even the day. Try not to make it too big, like trying to write 27 chapters in one week. But also make it big enough to inspire you to write every day. I would suggest, maybe, like 300 words a day? This way, you can get enough done without putting too much pressure on yourself.
3. Ah, plot. I have trouble with that too. My suggestion: (please remember that I am not a professional writer and this is not required or really tested. It is a suggestion) When in doubt, go to the library. Study your favorite books and see how the plot works and put together a bunch of tips from that. OR you could ask a fellow SWCer for help. This is why we have camp, after all.
4. Repeat after me: I DO NOT NEED TO PUT ALL THIS PRESSURE ON MYSELF. GOTHIC WILL GO GREAT. I HAVE FRIENDS TO HELP ME. I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE. I CAN DO THIS.
Plus, there's almost no way SWC can't be fun. Soooo, just try your best!
Sincerely, Lune (@Lovegoodlady )

daily ii … motivational letter to bea … 257 words
Dear Bea,
Hi! I hope you're doing well today. Since you already know me I won't bore you by introducing myself haha, I'll just jump right into it.
First of all, you're writing a novel? That's so cool! Even one chapter can seem like a lot, especially when you start writing it (what do you mean the word counter is only at 300 words? Something is obviously broken, I must have written at least 3000 words by now…), but I know you've got this. Also, if you ever need advice, want to yap about your latest idea, or just need to rant about how frustrating writing can be sometimes, you're always welcome to stop by <3
The other goal you listed was to try and complete two weeklies, which is an awesome ambition! Sure, they're worth a lot of points, but weeklies also give you the opportunity to delve deeper into new writing concepts and ideas, and it's so satisfying to write those last few words and finally be able to say “yes, I've completed the weekly!” SWC's weeklies have sparked some of my favorite writing ideas in the past, and I hope the weeklies this session will do the same for you.
Whatever happens this session, know that I'm rooting for you and your goals – I think they're great ones, and there are hundreds of SWCers ready to give you a motivational boost (probably in the form of a certain tropical yellow fruit) whenever you need one. You've got this, Bea! I believe in you <3
Yours, Chuey

Goals:
1. maintain a healthy SWC-life balance such that I don't end up checking Scratch every five minutes when I should actually be studying,
2. make some progress on that short story I've been trying to write for a month
HELLO HELLOOOOOOOO RECCA
First of all… I have struggled with this first one too. Very greatly (and very unfortunately lol). So know that you are not alone in your struggles!! *sobbing* I will try (emphasis on the TRY, I’m not good at advice haha) and give you some advice on how to maintain a healthy balance between SWC and studying.
1. I know everyone says this but no devices! It’s quite simple, no laptop/phone/iPad/anything else = no distractions! (Well, one less distraction). I find when studying in my bedroom there can be lots of distractions, like looking outside the window, lots of noise, getting annoyed by something that looks messy etc, so try go to a quiet room where there aren’t too many things to distract you, preferable with the windows closed/headphones on (but only with white noise or music with no lyrics or just nothing to block out noise) and you can get to work!!
2. If it’a during session, then you could use your work to count for words maybe? This motivates me a lot, and means you’re being involved with Scratch while still studying.
3. Give yourself breaks between studying, as it’s proven that a person cannot concentrate on one thing productively for more than around 40-45 minutes. You can use these breaks to check Scratch!
4. If it isn’t session, then just try tell yourself, there isn’t much to see (EVEN THO THAT’S SO WRONG *sobbing*) since session’s over and everyone’s got there own things to be getting on with.
5. I’m gonna be honest, I have the same problem wayyyyyy too much and even if someone gave this list to me, it probably wouldn’t help. Making to-do lists can be quite useful, as it’s nice breaking everything down into small pieces.
And now for the short story!
Not being motivated when writing can be really hard, especially when you just want to write something else but feel obliged to do it.
If you genuinely just don’t want to do it right now, and are just not feeling like you’ll get much out of it, then don’t do it and give it a break. You’ll just be more annoyed if you carry on with the story and feel like what you’re writing isn’t good (even though it’s probably amazing <3). If you do feel like you want to carry on but you’re too busy, then try and make a to-do list or something, that allows space in between your tasks to give you time to write. But don’t feel pressured or forced to write it if you don’t want to write now.
Anyways, you’re an SWCer!! You’re gonna smash it either way!! (AAAAAAAAAA THAT WAS SO CRINGY BUT I'M NOT GONNA DELETE IT)
Lots of mangoes,
Silvi ^^

Motivational message for Ivory. I'm not super happy with it and it's kind of messy and hard to read, but I'm glad I finished it and hopefully it helps.
Zer goals were: 1) enter writing comp 2) get to 20k words in my novel 3) work on setting/worldbuilding 4) reach my swc word goal
Hey Ivory. We don’t know each other because I’m a new camper, but I’m giving you a motivational message.
I’ve obviously never entered the writing competition, but it seems fairly simple to at least enter a piece and the piece doesn’t need to be that long (I don’t think?). If your novel goal is twenty-thousand, that means you can write a lot. It seems like writing enough for a piece will be very possible, and then once you’ve written it, submitting will be easy.
It’s very cool that you’re writing a novel, it’s probably awesome whatever it’s about. You’re likely going to be motivated to work on it because it has your own ideas, characters, and world, and that motivation can help you achieve twenty-thousand. Building up the world and setting will also be helped by interest, and as a added bonus it will improve your story overall. A novel backed by a well developed setting will be more fun to write than a boring, empty feeling one. And world building is just fun. That’s all going to help you develop your setting well, while also getting to twenty-thousand words in your novel.
All your goals are going to help with hitting your total word goal, and you seem experienced and motivated. SWC will really encourage you to write and you can actually enjoy doing it because of the activities, story lines, and other campers. You can totally achieve your goals and in the process improve your writing. I believe in you. Thriller FTW except actually sci-fi FTW…so uh just good luck! /lh Your writing will help make Thriller awesome.

Daily 2324 words and 150 points
Hii Elfie, I hope you’re enjoying this session of SWC so far, even though it is only the second day! I can’t wait to give you some motivation to - hopefully - help you meet your goals for this session.
Firstly, I know sometimes it can be really hard to find time to do the daily or you can’t think of something to write. This is completely understandable and it has happened to me many times in past sessions. After much trial and error, I have found that the best way to motivate myself for the daily is simply to make a start. As soon as I read the daily description I always try to write at least one sentence so that I’m not immediately trying to meet a word goal or leaving it to the last minute. Starting is always the hardest part so the sooner you get it out of the way, the better. If even this doesn’t work, I would recommend writing something short and easy first, like a diary entry or just rambling, as this should get you in the mood for completing the daily.
Also, it’s really great that you are returning to old personal projects during SWC. This is a great goal as it will help you quickly up your word count and it will give you another writing option other than weeklies and dailies. However, it may be hard to return to these projects after having not thought about them for so long. My advice for this is work back from basics, check through any world building or plotting to make sure you are still happy with your previous ideas and you also try using characters in dailies if possible to help yourself better understand the characters.
Overall, I wish you so much luck with this session of SWC, I know you’ll be so happy at the end of the month when you manage to complete all your goals!

Hey there Rose! Happy SWC! It’s great to see you around this session. How are you doing? I hope your doing real well, I wish you good luck with hitting 20k, that’s a pretty big word goal. I find that I write a lot more during cabin wars, when I write things of varying silly-ness, but write a lot of them, or write very long stories. Another good way is doing word sprints (or doing word wars), since you can get a good amount of words very quickly (depending on your words per minute). I also find that roleplaying can add up to a lot of words over time. Anyway, good luck with reaching 20k words! Even though that’s a big goal, I’m sure you can do it!
as for including more representation, definitely read and research about the experiences of the type of people your trying to write about so you can do it as accurately as possible!
If you know someone of the certain religion/race/gender you are trying to write about, you could try asking them. And, of course, you could always try asking around SWC for writing advice or critique, since many people are more then happy to help out with your writing, whether that be editing, giving ideas, or just giving advice. Well, good luck and motivation mangoes to you for all of these things, even if their not easy, I’m sure you can do it, since you’re a pretty great writer. Goodbye, and good luck.

Daily 2:
@prishaJuni

HEY PRISHA!!!
It's so nice to be reunited with my fellow poet but under different cabins (i'm a co-leader WHAT?!?!?!) and so I'm pleased to see you are well and healthy (and active)!
You pretty much know me (or what i PRESENT myself to be ಥ‿ಥ ) so I'll spare you the time and boredom LET'S DIVE INTO IT!!!
You can probably tell I'm trying to maintain my word goal here as i am clearly stalling a LITTLE bit… :cough: Actually maybe a LOT bit ^^ I have a 30k word goal and I have a goal to write at least 1k words everyday. I umm… STALKED you a little bit (im sorry TOT) and found out that your word goal is 10k and I think that if you write around 334 words everyday you should (hopefully) be able to exceed your word goal. Also average words for a daily is 250-400 words so keep up with your dailies and U GOT THIS!!!
Omg I'm tryna draft my novel tooooooooooooooooooooooooo. I know, it gets tiring, annoying, you get stuck in dark corners, hitches, plot cliches and character holes but just know that i know you can overcome this and make a great novel. Also you should think about Vicky somewhere across in the world also struggling in the same way and laugh it off. When it gets overwhelming just take a break, go outside, and get some fresh air, take a glass of water, exercise, talk to someone (IM FREE) I BELIEVE IN YOUU!!!!!!
And of course, the best thing you've put down –> INTERACTION + FUN = CHAOS MANGOES AHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!! You're a great person and I'm sure if you just be yourself and let your personality shine, ppl will be GRAVELLING towards u, trust.
Fun is the most important part of this, so as us swc'ers often do, refrain from procrastination and sleep deprivation as it leaves you overwhelmed and very desperate so I'm here to say: DO YOUR WORDS NOM NOM and have a very merry swc!

HEY PRISHA!!!
It's so nice to be reunited with my fellow poet but under different cabins (i'm a co-leader WHAT?!?!?!) and so I'm pleased to see you are well and healthy (and active)!
You pretty much know me (or what i PRESENT myself to be ಥ‿ಥ ) so I'll spare you the time and boredom LET'S DIVE INTO IT!!!You can probably tell I'm trying to maintain my word goal here as i am clearly stalling a LITTLE bit… :cough: Actually maybe a LOT bit ^^ I have a 30k word goal and I have a goal to write at least 1k words everyday.
Hi, @28thDimension!
Two weeklies seems like a sensible goal to stick with. I think that with weeklies, setting aside the time to dedicate to it is the most important thing. Really, that could be said of most writing, dailies included. Writing is so specific, so dependent on your own mood, that the most important thing is to sit down, get in the right mood, maybe put some headphones on, and WRITE. It isn’t like crocheting or knitting, which you can do while watching a film or video. You need to have your mind and heart in it for you to create the best possible product out of it.
Next thing, 16 dailies, was it? I think, with dailies, don’t fixate on small details. In my opinion, dailies are more of something that are a bit like a warmup to get you in the flow of writing without worrying, “God, this sounds so bad” or “My characters feel lifeless” or something else that I can confirm have gone through my mind a hundred times. Dailies are to get your hands on the keyboard (or pen and notebook!), not for nitpicking!
And as for getting past 15k in your story? I’m not sure how far you currently are in your story, whether it’s 1k or 14k at the moment. Regardless, there’s always a mark where all progress halts and you feel like you’re in a standstill in the story. At least, this has happened in my experience. If you’re currently going through that kind of roadblock, I’d advise you to skip to a further part in your story. It sounds weird, but trust me, it helps. When you’re really looking forward to that one scene and you feel like you’re slogging away to get there, it gives a huge morale boost to do that thing you really want to do. This helped me get back into the momentum, instead of totally giving up on my project. I’m considerably further into my writing project now, so I’d consider that a sign that it worked! And besides, at least you would be writing, instead of standing still, without any progress.
Thank you for getting through this: I hope it didn’t sound too rambly and if it did, I’m sorry you had to read this! Good luck!

i. “i know what it’s like to fall and i know what it’s like to fly.”
⋆˚✿ day 1
introduction . sci-fi . 1166
I am Sky, an Asian American girl. I am the daughter of one immigrant and two United States citizens. No amount of facts about myself could allow you to understand my identity. I can tell you that I am twelve and am turning thirteen, but you wouldn’t understand that music is my livelihood and poetry is my passion.
All of these things make up my identity. All of these things are what make up the girl who is considerate, thoughtful, and understanding, yet realistic and fearful. I am who I am because of the things that shape me. I am considerate because of my parents who raised me. I am thoughtful because of my friends who are the beacon of my survival. I am understanding because I know what it’s like to fall and I know what it’s like to fly.
I enjoy poetry for the way simple words can be embellished to form feelings and emotion, the way ink on parchment can transport you to another world. Poetry is the music of the soul, the tears of the artist who has bled into the paper. Poetry is my relief.
I love reading for the thrill of getting lost in the words, the inky tears of the writers who have bled to reveal their underlying understanding of this world, no matter how vague. I love unanswered questions whose answers may only be revealed through character development, stylistic choice, and world building. A collage of metaphors and figurative language that bleed together, like the colors of a sunset or the crash of waves, so serene yet intense, mixing with the distant cries of a baby seagull, struggling to lift its wings and fly.
Reading is a world you can find your place in, a world you can make dreams in, a world of writing and words and wonder. Like the Secret Garden, crafted into a daydream by Frances Hodgson Burnett, or Dorothy’s tornado, the blessing leading her to the world of Oz, spun into reality by Frank Baum, you, too, can enter a world of imagination… by simply flipping the page.
But writing and reading are not the only things that make up me. Musical theater has shaped who I am since I was six, forming me into who I am today. Theater is one of my greatest hobbies, giving me the courage to explore the depths of other practices, the bravery to stand in a spotlight and be unafraid, unapologetic. Theater is a way for me to hide behind the mask of a different person, all while bringing them to life through yourself.
I love nature and greenery, often gathering inspiration from the most unknown parts of the Earth. I would be content to rest upon a rock, waves crashing beneath my feet and white foam elegantly perched atop golden sand while sunlight dances, pristine, against the clear waves. I would be content to memorize the veins of a leaf until I could draw it from memory.
OKAY- enough of the poetic stuff, my brain is getting fried. So hiya! I'm Sky, an ENFJ-T teenage writer and bookworm (among many other things!) Writing is my biggest passion and I hope to pursue it later down the road. I love writing many genres, my favorites being fantasy, sci-fi (SCI-FI FTW), realistic fiction/short stories, and, of course, poetry. I explained above what interests me about writing and poetry, but the main reason I continue to work and get better is because of the way it provides me freedom. Poetry and writing are relievers in which I can voice my thoughts in flower language and bring together my varied interests, such as my love for nature, which oftentimes dominates my landscapes and can be found buried deep in metaphors and figurative language. The amount of times I’ve used a bird or river as a metaphor in a poem is crazy- I’m scared to count them.
Like I’ve mentioned before, I’m also a tHeAtEr kid!! I’ve been doing musical theater since I was six years old, and it’s helped me to step out of my comfort zone and feel acquainted with public speaking. Throughout my years of theater, I’ve landed so many different roles in so many different musicals, although my dream role is Jane Banks from Mary Poppins. I love the ability to transform yourself into someone else and use your own feelings to guide your role. I also enjoy every aspect included in theater, from auditions to singing to dancing to acting to costumes to the show itself!
Another one of my hobbies is Brazilian jiu jitsu, which I’ve been doing since the age of four. I’m now a yellow-white belt and have been competing in tournaments since I was six. Jiu jitsu has always been fun and challenging, acting as another obstacle that I strive to get better at.
BOOKS! I love books. I love reading fantasy and romance, as well as sci-fi, mystery, and realistic fiction! Some of my favorite books include The Inheritance Games, Powerless (Kai Azer is mine), Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Heartless, Renegades, The Outsiders (Soda’s mine too hehe), and WAY more! I recommend not asking me for book recommendations unless you’re up for staying up all night.
I also love music! It’s a great way for me to focus and just vibe to! As someone who also loves singing and musical theater, I obviously love musical soundtracks. However, my music taste also tends to reflect my poetry- meaning a lot of sad, depressing songs… ANYWAY! Some of my favorite artists and/or musicals include Gracie Abrams, Conan Gray, Olivia Rodrigo, EPIC: the Musical, Hamilton, Taylor Swift, Devon Gabriella, and more!
I also pride myself on my academic accomplishments, which is one of the main things that plays a large role in my life. I’m an overachiever, perfectionist and overthinker which can clash in a negative way at times, but it ensures that I put out my best work into my schoolwork. I’m always trying to balance the many aspects of my life, prioritizing my school life.
Overall, I like to think I’m a very considerate person who is always working hard to achieve her goals. There’s nothing that feels better than the euphoria of success, and watching your hard work pay off is always worth it in the end. Each thing I love is a puzzle piece into who I am as a person, building up and shaping me.
I hope that I will be able to pursue writing in the future and be able to share my passion with the world. There is nothing more enticing than to live out a life where I can enjoy the things I do and feel as though I am able to relay my emotions and get better at my craft.
I have absolutely no clue how to end this and it definitely shifted from “wOw LoOk At ThIs PoEtIc ChAoS” to “NORMAL CHAOS” and… yeah! So this is the end. BYE BYE!

Dear Asianisawesome,
Hello and welcome to SWC! I’m Hope, your motivation buddy for today.
Firstly, I hope you really enjoy this first session! We can seem intimidating at times with all our inside jokes and SWC lingo, but we’re also really friendly, and looking to make new friends all the time. SWC is truly a wonderful place, and I hope you’ll experience that this month.
And for actually writing, I present to you: motivation.
Well. If only it were that simple. Unfortunately, I don’t have many tips for consistent writing, but I’d really encourage you to try out as many dailies and weeklies as possible! Even if you don’t end up completing all of them — I know I definitely don’t — it still really helps to create and keep a habit of writing daily. Plus, they’re great fun, and you also get to read everyone else’s daily or weekly submissions.
And you can do lots of Word Wars! This is an event that hasn’t started yet, but in a few days Word Wars will start. This is where you race against an opponent to write the most words in a set amount of time, usually only a couple of minutes, sometimes writing to a prompt, and it’s a quick and easy way to write everyday as well as earn points for your cabin.
I love the goals you’ve set for this month; they’re really varied and cover many of the amazing aspects of SWC. Hopefully we’ll see each other around in the Main Cabin this session, and if you ever want to just get to know someone new, I’d love to get to know you!
From Hope

Daily: 2 - words 254
Hello, @Ham19-01-2011 .
Working on your currently 55k project seems like something doable if you continuously work on it all month you only need to write around 162 words per day. (I think???) Working on a large project is something that truly requires dedication and effort. What truly matters is that you are improving your writing every time that you do write something. And working on a story up to 55k is definitely something that you should be proud of no matter how long it took you. And any progress is some progress no matter how little progress you did make.
As for your short story, just simply draft it and re-write till you're happy with it. Remember that you can always go back and change things.
Don't worry about things being perfect the first time you write something. What matters is that you are happy with what you are writing. Because it is your writing no one else's.
If you ever feel stuck on your writing just take a break, eat a snack, read a book, draw something, and then come back to it later with more inspiration and motivation to write. While working maybe listen to some music if it helps you focus. Or carry a notebook with you in case you get an idea but can’t immediately write it into your story at that time. Because sometimes the ideas don’t come at the most convenient time.
Anyway, sorry if this is terrible I have no clue how to motivate people to write.

Hi Sky! So happy to meet you (and write your letter)!
I get that, there's something about writing that makes you feel like you've accomplished something, it's that awesome feeling that isn't quite pride but mostly feels like you just devoured a warm meal and it feels… comforting.
Okay, I'm so sorry to start off like that, I'm kind of a generally awkward person so you pretty much landed on the worst person to write you a letter, even if a picture is clear in my head: no way am I going to manage to put it in words.
Back to your goals (so sorry): Aaaaaaaghhhh, I cannot develop a healthy writing schedule, I think I'm simply incapable between writing at 3 A.M and procrastinating during the day…
I think you should lay out a plan for like… the next month, and write what you want to accomplish each day (word goal, the pieces you'll be working on and your general intrigue).
For the motivation thing I've got this really cool (and really weird) trick: whenever the thought of writing crosses your mind (obviously this only works in an appropriate environment - home for example) you count back from 5 and start the task IMMEDIATELY. *Ahem* I totally don't use this to get up *Ahem*. Apparently your brain gets so fixated on accomplishing it, it's motivating ??
I have the exact same goal! I'd really like to connect with people over the session, and I'm wishing you luck <3
Also, good luck on your writing application and novella
So nice to meet you!!

⋆ ───────── ⋆✧ ⋆ ✶ ⋆ ✧ ⋆ ───────── ⋆
2nd July - Misc Writing
I did the daily again because I wanted to write Hope a letter and because they posted their goals right after I finished mine and as my dearest friend I wanted to write you something.
⋆ ───────── ⋆✧ ⋆ ✶ ⋆ ✧ ⋆ ───────── ⋆
Hiya Hope!
How are you doing? Yes, this is my second time doing this daily, I’ve done it once already but you’re my friend - my longest friend in SWC actually, seeing as I’ve known you from since before you joined SWC - and so I’m going to do the friend thing of writing you some more motivation!
Anyways, your first goal, complete 15 dailies, seems to be pretty doable! All you got to do is wake up, check scratch, and write what you can. It might be hard to do, especially when there’s no motivation or inspiration, but you can do this! In November, I made a promise to myself that I’d try to do every single daily. I slacked off after I did half of them, but that was still such an achievement for me as I’d never been that active in an SWC session before! My only piece of advice here is that you’ve just got to keep going. Write a bit every day, even if it’s not for the daily, but keep going and keep doing things. You’ll reach it sooner than you know, and you’re already 2/15ths of the way there! I actually wish I had some kind of pi/tau approximation joke here for you, but this is only the second day, so I can’t make any cool maths jokes.
Woah, that turned into a bit of a ramble, huh? Anyways, your next goal, do three weeklies, is also completely achievable! All you’ve got to do is take them part by part and start working on them as soon as they come out! No. Speedrunning. Tell yourself that in the mirror, and I’ll also be bugging you every day as motivation, so yay!
As for your third and final goal, beat me on the trackbear? That ain’t happening. Sorry to crush your dreams. Actually - I’m only joking. You can totally do this (but not without a fight from me, so, you’re in for a fun ride) and I’m sure that my higher and higher word count will keep you motivated! I’m sure you can accomplish this goal, with some… very large resistance from my side, but completely doable! It is also… incredibly ironic that I’m writing you a motivational letter while trying to raise my own standing on the trackbear, but alas.
Well, I guess that concludes this letter. Good luck, I’ll be bombarding you with daily motivation, and enjoy. Also. Do your art coursework. I warned you about that.
Your dear friend,
Skylar

353 words as a letter to @-Raye-
Hi Raye! I’m Surf, and it’s nice to meet you
Reaching your word goal can be daunting, but it’s helpful if you motivate yourself every day! Some advice I have is keeping a rough schedule of how many words you’d like to write each day, and trying to keep on target throughout the session. This way you can build a consistent habit of writing and improve your stamina!
As for developing your skills and trying new writing techniques, something I would recommend is viewing past SWC workshops and weeklies! There’s a wide range of different topics that they cover (I can send the link if you don’t have it) and can definitely inspire you to create interesting pieces! Try stepping outside of your comfort zone by trying something you aren’t familiar with or used to.
Writing a longer story is something I also have personally struggled with, because it can be really easy to lose motivation. Still, it helps if you set yourself goals–maybe you’d like to write five chapters over the session, or reach 5k words–and keep checkpoints along the way. Try out different techniques as you write, whether this is planning the progression of the story, rewriting scenes, or taking a break when you get stuck!
Lastly, don’t let procrastination or the fear of failure stop you from applying to jobs or scholarships! Set aside time each day to research opportunities and work on creating applications or resumes, keeping deadlines in mind. Coming from personal experience, applying can never go wrong, even if it’s last minute–I actually applied for an internship at the end of June and ended up getting a summer job. Still, it took a lot of research and applying to find something that would work out! Having work experience definitely shows colleges and workplaces that you’re able to work hard and put in effort. Even if you can’t find any work opportunities available to you, you can always look into volunteering, which can show dedication.
Your goals are specific and attainable, and by pacing yourself, I’m confident you can achieve success–I wish you the best of luck!

SWC Megathread ‧₊˚❀༉‧ July 2025
daily: 02 / 07 / 2025
prompt: post your goals for this session, and write someone else a motivational message based on their's.
message for @AWritingCheerleader → Goals: Do more than half the dailies, reach my word goal, write 7k words of my novel!
Dear Isa,
Firstly, those are amazing goals and I have full faith that you can complete them by the end of this session! Doing more than half the dailies is absolutely doable and every daily is approximately 300 words, so should only take you about half an hour to complete per day – you could split those into 5-10 minute intervals first thing in the morning, in between lessons during the school day, or even right before bed. Remember you don’t need access to a device in order to complete dailies, all you need is a pen and pencil!
Don’t stress on the quality of dailies or your novel; at the end of the day, writing seems to quash that famous ‘quality over quantity’ principle, because the more you write, the more hidden gems you’ll find. There’s a famous quote from Ray Bradbury, “Write a short story every week. It's not possible to write 52 bad short stories in a row.” Just keep writing, even if you aren’t fully confident in your output – eventually, you’ll write those amazing pieces that were only made possible by the not-so-great ones you wrote along the way.
As for reaching your word goal, again, don’t stress! Focus less on the number of words you’re writing (I know that glance to your word count can seem tempting) and more on how enjoyable the process of writing is – focus on how excited you are to get your ideas down, to shape your characters and their richly insightful interactions, and to share your writing with others.
And with your novel, have patience with yourself, but above all, enjoy the process! They say writing a book changes you, and I firmly believe in that sentiment. Simply the process of fleshing out characters and structuring scenes and bringing the story to life in front of your readers’ eyes is a gift in and of itself! Don’t overthink – just get those words down and watch your characters come alive; I promise, there’s rarely a better feeling than finishing a book. 7k words is a huge step in that direction, and when you feel your motivation slipping, hold onto that dream, that moment when you write ‘the end’ and realise: you’ve done it.
Above all, remember that we’re here for you! No writer should feel alone in their brilliantly creative endeavour, and SWC was created to bring those of us with that love for stories together, so that we can build each other up. So whenever your motivation drops, drop a message in the comments, and we’ll build you up with hoards of motivational mangoes!
Wishing you all the best,
May <3
