So we’re all good with Festival of Fae as our title now! I’ll work on putting together some storyline compilation of my ideas as I have time throughout the day, so we can start bouncing ideas back and forth about that <33 So expect that today or tomorrow!

Okayyy! Here’s a masterpost (help I spent wayyyy too much time on this ahaha) of all the things I’ve been thinking about in terms of storyline <33 If there’s something you guys think of or something you want to change/suggest, feel free to do so!

So here’s a basic outline of what I was thinking:

- Campers would be citizens in the Festival, and they would have to find the root of a dark magic that threatens to trap them in the Festival forever. I was thinking that it would kind of be a ‘groundhog day’ situation, they are stuck on Festival day until they figure out how to stop the darkness!

- Of course, I mentioned characters in my app! The main one I’ve had in my mind for a WHILE now has simply been titled ‘Jester,’ but if y’all think of another name that you want to call them then feel free to suggest! Basically they are like a masked character who is Fae, and helps, but not without a cost. So basically I thought Jester would offer help on challenges, but the campers would have to make a deal with them (and try to negotiate the best price possible) to get the help? If that makes sense?

- And I would absolutely love to have some other weird/wacky characters make appearances, so if you guys have suggestions feel free to throw them out there!

- For in-cabin challenges, I was thinking of puzzles and one big scavenger hunt towards the end, to find out who/what is behind the dark magic! And I’d also love to include some smaller challenges (like writing and self care) just to spice things up! We did a variety of challenges in Fantasy, and I actually have no idea why some of them did well and some didn’t, so if you guys have any suggestions about what kinds of challenges campers like to complete v what challenges aren’t as widely liked, I’d love to hear <3

- In cabin challenges— do you have any other suggestions or a more clear plan of what you’d love to carry out?

- Cabin currency! Seeing as this is quite literally a festival, I think this is a must <3 What do we want to use this for, like would it just be for Pfps/banners/signatures or do we want it to be used for storyline purposes too?

- I was thinking of having the characters be separate accounts (like our beloved Cooper Harlowe <3), how do we want to split managing them, especially because I’ll be out the second week of camp?

definitely storyline purposes would be cool!!! like they could use the money they have to pay characters or enter certain places, etc.!

that's really cool! i also love clev's idea for the darkness to be revealed after the festival is supposed to end. i'm not sure how the dark magic is going to play out, though–mabybe the citizens are suddenly being cursed or turned evil?

hm i'm assuming there would be all kinds of fae at the festival–pixies, elves, nymphs, gnomes, trolls, fairies. we could totally pick from that assortment to use as inspiration for characters

i think us being citizens will help with the suspense of the storyline since we won't know that much (although drawing elf ears for matching pfps would be really cool lol) we could be new people in charge of the festival presented with the problem of the dark magic

love clev's idea, and narrowing it down to one specific character might be better! it would be super interesting for the campers to have to figure out which character to trust, knowing they might be betrayed….

in the past cabin's i've co-led i didn't have a ton of experience coming up with in-cabin challenges or what is best-liked for campers. i agree with clev that collab stories are super fun tho :0 will let you know if i've come up with more ideas for this!

absolutely! it could just be actual currency bahaha. the citizens can have a share of gold coins to use around the festival, the pfps could be ‘portraits’, signatures are tapestries, etc. lol just throwing ideas out there.

Ooo I love that idea! So maybe the first couple days to the first week is just them like getting to know the characters and exploring and then the darkness is revealed?
For the darkness reveal, maybe we could utilize the characters, like have them tell the campers there’s something fishy going on? Or maybe one of us could be turned ‘evil’— kind of an opposite from the classic ‘ one the leaders is behind it’ to ‘one the leaders needs to be saved?’ What do you guys think of those two ideas— do you have a pereference or another suggestion?

I think a lot of it just depends on the campers and their activity levels— like some of the self-care challenges did well, and some didn’t. I do remember, though, that for the collaborative story we did at the beginning of session, we met all the word count goals (by which we wrote like 2k? Words— I don’t remember), but didn’t have that many people actually participate (only like 3-5) But in our big puzzles project, we had multiple people complete all 5 puzzles!

Scavenger hunts are my favorite hehe <33 And yes! I would love to have the characters work on helping out with some challenges like if the campers need extra people but there aren’t that many people active <3

Ooo yeah! It might be cool to have different sections of the festival and have it be sort of a ‘choose your own adventure’ sort of thing like Mystery in November I think? (I’ll go check which cabin it was bwahaha <3) But that might add a little too much complexity— what do you guys think?

YESS OMG I LOVE THAT— like they have to chosoe whether or not they’re going to trust/use the information that character gives them, especially if we reveal later in the session that it might be one of the characters?

Yes! I think it would be cool to give them like a starting amount instead of having them start at zero, and there are certain things in-storyline that they can save for, as well as cabin merch! And then they can earn more coins by doing dailies/weeklies/etc.
