Season 2 of the Shopetition is underway!

Welcome to the Summer Shopetition 2025, or SS25 for short! Just today, the Shopetition applications have been opened, and shops can now apply to compete in the Shopetition!

You’re probably wondering who I am and what the Shopetition is. I’m bombardingppl, a Scratcher who’s been making art and coding for almost four years. About a year ago, I started The Scratch Lab, which grew into one of the biggest shops before it recently closed due to inactivity. Back when it was active, I hosted the first Shopetition, an event held twice a year (winter and summer) where shops competed for the top spot by earning points, completing orders, and knocking out other teams. It was a really big event in the requests forum, and I think this season will be even better. Now, I know many of the Scratchers here will feel a little uneasy, considering what happened last season , However, these are all of the changes that have been made so that this season is much better!

1. Longer preparation time and transition periods
Last season, there was not enough time for shops to finish all remaining orders and prepare for the Shopetition. This time, we've doubled the time to prepare, which means that during the 12 days that are given to you before the start of the Shopetition, you should be completing all remaining orders, so that you don't so much work to do during the Shopetition, since orders made before the Shopetition begins do not count. The Shopetition will officially begin on June 16. There will also be periods between the group stage and the knockout stage, and the knockout stage and the finals, so that final decisions and announcements can be made.

2. Three-review limit during the group stage
This season, we want to ensure that Shops focus on quality and service, instead of quantity. That's why this season, we're enforcing a three-review limit during the entire group stage so that shops focus on getting high scores on those three instead of rushing to complete as many orders as possible.

3. Better tiebreaker at the end of the group stage
Last season, there was a three-way tie in one of the groups during the group stage, and a tiebreaker had to be made to see who would qualify. Unfortunately, there was no reliable tiebreaker at the time, and a number guess had to be used. It was not fair, and a better tiebreaker had to be used for the next season. This season, if a tiebreaker is needed, a small order will be made by me and reviewed by me, and the shop that receives the better review will qualify.

4. Submitting reviews to me directly during the group stage
Last season, I, myself, had to look through every single shop of the Shopetition to look for orders and check when they were made, and it was a bit tedious. That's why this season, I'm encouraging all staff members to submit orders at the topic of the Shopetition, so that reviews can be better organized and tracked, so fewer mistakes occur. There is a small form you need to fill out when you submit the orders, but it will make the group stage run much smoother.

5. Keeping judges active
Last season, when the knockout stage came and the orders were needed to be judged, many of the judges were not available at the time. This time, better communication when hiring judges to keep the judges active and aware of the event.
