Why are half of the explore page projects nonexistent?
I actually recently responded to a similar question! Here was my explanation as to why some trending projects may appear as “not found” when clicking on them:
Upon checking myself, a few of these projects that show up as not found appear to be inspired by the franchise Sprunki, which often include violence and gore. While not all sprunki projects are like this, the Scratch Team may have removed them in order to prevent users from clicking on links or going down rabbit holes that lead them to find disturbing sprunki projects.
Also, I am unaware if this is still happening, but last year a lot of users were manipulating glitches on the site that allowed them to get their projects higher on trending. It's possible some projects were also removed due to their creators being dishonest about how they got them on trending.
As you said, projects do get unshared for normal reasons like correcting errors. Users may also delete their trending projects if they are getting too many notifications or spam.

Why are half of the explore page projects nonexistent?
jvvg's answer on another topic might be helpful:
There are a few possibilities for why they could be taken down:
- The creators took them down (and there are a whole bunch of reasons why that could happen)
- The Scratch Team took them down (even if they look innocent from the thumbnails, there could still be problematic content within them you aren't aware of)
- Several people reported them (in which case they will be put back up as soon as the Scratch Team reviews the reports if there isn't actually anything wrong with the,)
While mass reporting is a possibility (with the caveat that they would only be temporarily taken down as long as there wasn't actually anything wrong with them), there are other explanations that are perfectly plausible as well. After all, a lot of people misunderstand how mass reporting works and a lot of claims of false reporting are wrong.
