Why don't asset links work in posts
In posts assets.scratch.mit.edu type of image hosting doesn't work it gives a false positive of it being ‘'inappropriate’' when it's not.

Why don't asset links work in posts
People were apparently abusing it in some parts of the site - Which got it a spot on the filter.
It was never meant to be a whitelisted imagehost anyway - There was likely just a wildcard whitelist included (*.scratch.mit.edu/)

(#2)Yes. The Scratch website, and all of its subdomains, are approved image hosts.

This actually hasn't changed. The whitelist still contains a wildcard for all Scratch subdomains, and that includes asset links.
However, in November 2023, the forums were updated to use the same filterbot as the rest of the website. Asset links happened to be blocked on the main site already due to spam, so by extension, they became blocked on the forums as well.
Technically speaking, assets.scratch.mit.edu is still an approved image host—but in practice, the filter makes it impossible to actually use.

It's still not —snip—impossible to use, there is a workaround. I'm not sure if I'm allowed to mention it though

(#4)Well, yes… but that would probably count as bypassing the filter. It's still not —snip—impossible to use, there is a workaround. I'm not sure if I'm allowed to mention it though

I noticed uploads and cdn2 were also blocked, though not in signatures, which allowed me to get Griffstache into my signature
