Is it Uncommon to have a 4 Letter Username?
Hi, this is just TheAutocorrectingCat. Since I was told this name was not taken, I thought, “Wow, I get a 4 letter username! I'm sure I'll get popular on that account because of it!” …I did not. Not that I care or anything…
That made me wonder, how common are 4 letter usernames?

Is it Uncommon to have a 4 Letter Username?
I knew it the first time I saw!
Well, there are 16,777,216 combinations of 4 letter usernames, but to calculate how rare we would need to know how many there are already taken.

There are quite a lot of possible combinations of 4 characters, so there are probably a lot that are still available. Cool find though!

Technically, your username is a four character username, not four letters. Four characters is 38^4 (~2 million) possible permutations of usernames. It's unknown how many are actually taken. But, considering that there are 135 million registered users according to the stats page, if each one of those was taken (they are not), then there would be about a 1.48% chance of choosing a four character username. Up to you to consider if that's “rare”.

arguably yes, but it doesn't really matter.
It isn't the username, but the user behind that name that counts.
See my user? that is a result of young me having poor naming skills. Still don't care though, just as good as someone who decided to get a 4 character name.

Actually, all of them are, from what I’ve heard. It's unknown how many (4 letter, not character, usernames) are actually taken…
The last available 4 letter (not 4 character) username got taken in December 2024
