Using Scratch on mobile is HORRIBLE. Here's why.

Ever since I switched from using a laptop to a phone, my experience using Scratch has become painful. I found it very strange, since my device is pretty fast and responsive, and I don't own that many files.
WARNING: I will not list them accordingly. I'll just go for it. Here it is:

*cracks knuckles*

- It was no longer letting me edit the costumes, nor the scripts, nor the sprites. I can only delete or add, but I cannot edit.

- Entering the Sounds tab would completely make the edit tab say “NOPE!” and crash that part of the editor.

- Clicking the “Create A Sprite” or “Add Costume” buttons would only show me a screen with the already existing costumes/sprites, which may I add, NO ONE uses. Like, NO ONE. Just delete them already. (Abby, Apple, Duck, etc.)

- When placing my phone horizontally, the website wouldn't fully fit into the screen, forcing me to zoom out and drag the screen itself to navigate the editor.
- Even weirder when using it vertically. It would show a strange purple background below the editor, which remained the same size.

- The main page does not fill into the entire screen vertically, and using the website horizontally makes it impossible to log in unless you switch between vertical and horizontal accordingly.

- Full screen mode only works if I enter horizontally, because apparently Scratch hates vertical screens and if you try to enter full screen mode the website will kick you in the stomach and go “Hell no, here's a purple screen below the project!”

- When entering full screen mode while inside editor, you have to shift the screen up and down for the weird purple thing that haunts me in my nightmares to not appear.

- The loading screen does not fit the mobile screen, nor horizontally or vertically.

CONCLUSIONS
In general, Scratch has never thought of their beloved phone users, and is forcing them to constantly be in pain and suffering with these easily fixable bugs.

Thank you for reading, and you are free to leave your opinion below.

All of this is because Scratch was designed for PCs, not phones.

Using Scratch on mobile is HORRIBLE. Here's why.

Here's why it happens:

1. This is because mobile phones have more limited screen than tablets or computers. Phones have a limited screen size, while tablets and computers have bigger screens so that you can have more quality when using Scratch.

2. Mobile phones have limited storage due to their smaller size. Scratch often uses bigger versions of devices, so they usually work in tablets and laptops

Are there any more questions for this post?

True but we're talking about an educational website, you'd expect it to work more properly on devices more often used by children, but no, it's the opposite.

Phones were never meant to run scratch as devices like tablets are more compatible with scratch and can display all of scratch’s features. Phones are way too small to display all of scratch’s features and thus cannot run scratch. Also aren’t tablets (often used by children) are used more as alternatives instead of computers in classrooms?

If you want to use scratch on a mobile device, i would highly reccomend buying a tablet and a keyboard that is compatible with that device.

Some of these bugs are wrong, they don't occur on my end.

And yes I DID indeed create pixel art on a mobile device.

And YES, I also have a computer.

This is a forum for bugs and glitches, not for rants/complaints. Scratch was not originally intended for use on mobile devices, because there really was no such thing. I wish that it was mobile friendly, but for now, all we can do is wait.

It’s somewhat mobile friendly for tablet devices, but phones aren’t.

…and that's pretty much irrelevant considering that most phones these says have several hundred gigiabytes of storage. Even low-end models from a few years ago (such as some iPhone SEs) have 64 or more gigabytes of storage.

In fact, most smartwatches have enough storage to run Scratch*.

*And that's counting RAM. I managed to run Scratch 3.0 on a device with only 512 MB of ram for years- it's actually pretty small.

The real issue here is that Scratch was never designed to be run on a phone. In fact, the Android version of it isn't even possible to download from the Google Play Store on an Android phone- you need an Android tablet or Chromebook. This was an intentional decision by the Scratch Team- they did not design Scratch 3.0 to work on smartphones, mostly because of screen size (keep in mind that they started making Scratch 3.0 in 2016- phone screens were even smaller then).

Scratch 3.0 was designed for both PCs and tablets, but not phones.

Using Scratch on mobile is HORRIBLE. Here's why.

Scratch has always been, and still is, designed for laptop and desktop computers. Mobile devices are too cramped to properly contain all the elements of a scratch editor window. Scratch is targeted at younger people, and typically younger students do not need phones until high school. Especially in previous years, younger people did not commonly have mobile devices. Although tablet computers are an exception, programming in general is very difficult without a keyboard, and even with scratch's block based language it is still difficult to provide an effective mobile version of scratch. If the UI had a completely different version for touchscreen devices it would be a headache for teachers and students as Scratch could look very different on some devices which would be confusing to some users. Generally laptop computers like Chromebooks are the big target of Scratch, as they are extremely common in schools and homes, while tablets and phones generally aren't used for scratch, making demand low and therefore not much effort is put into it. Generally, any mid-high level language requires a keyboard and mouse, and Scratch definitely needs some features of the mouse that a touchscreen can't provide.
