Anything that isn't made by actually toxic and problematic people is a good music taste

what about the phrase “pay attention to the art, not the artist”? (don't remember it word for word but it goes something like that)
Yes, but I wouldn't want to accidentally support somebody who had done horrible things
It would also already ruin the music if I know what that artist had done

What if a member of a group did something bad, can you still listen to the group? (the group itself hasn't done anything bad, its just one member)

Guys I think my favorite band is starting to use AI for their music videos and idk if I should stop listening bc I love the music so much and the band members are so nice but paying and crediting artists is a topic I'm very passionate about
Though the band and especially the lead singer are very anti-AI they've started using what looks like AI in some of their newer music videos as a way to protest it and visualize the dystopian world but I don't agree with that because I feel like a much better way to protest such things is to actually pay and credit artists
Its not like they have a super low budget for artists, too. Plenty of their music videos have a lot of amazing animation and props.
I am aware they are using an AI program using art from artists who consented to it (though I don't know which) but I can't help but feel bothered by it. I at least wanna see the original artists' work somewhere y'know?
I am so split by this - can you guys help?

i am most definitely opinionated about this (just one look at my ocular history tells you that i am very pro-ai), but i don't think you should stop supporting an entire band just because they used a tool once. maybe if their songs themselves used ai, but this case has so many layers of abstraction that I personally wouldn't care.

just my two cents though lol

I can get behind that but they used it multiple times/are starting to use it and again the loss of artist's jobs is something that really upsets me personally not just because its a job I would've taken but there are so many people my age who aren't good at many things or don't have the focus to do much else not to mention the artists who have only just started their career
Plus I listened to the band in the first place because of its clear views so it feels like I'm betraying the art community a bit by listening to their newer songs but if I don't listen to them, I kinda start to miss how things were a few years ago when I started listening to them :[

EDIT: Its not AI!! It's just styled to look similar to AI
I'm so relieved :3

How old are the band members? If they’re past-I’d say like- their 20’s then they may not be aware of how bad ai is (I had a kinda similar problem, Nicki Minaj is my fav artist but she used ai pics in tweets to promote her albums & songs & stuff (luckily no actual song covers used ai, she does photoshoots & pays actual 3D artists to make those for her) but she’s in her 40’s & likely didn’t know how ai sucks (I mean she later signed a open letter that was very much against ai, with other artists like Billie Ellish & Katy Perry & stuff) & I think she hasn’t used ai since) also, you can like the music someone makes with out liking them as people, ofc it’s your choose but separating art from artists is smth you can do

I think that Indie Folk/Folk rock is really good. I also like alternative. Maybe try listening to The Oh Hellos (Try “Wishing Well” or “The truth is a cave”) or the crane wives (The album “the fool in her wedding gown” is good, specifically the songs “Easier” and “Tongues and Teeth”) for some folk. maybe try “Plea From A Cat Named Virtute” by the weakerthans for some indie alternative stuff. I'd recommend all of these to anyone on here, as I assume that the original poster might not be looking for suggestions anymore.

i actually don't mind when people intentionally use AI for the uncanny feeling it has, however this seems to be rare

More like yes and no.

Some rap songs are just generic 808 hihats and claps with a guy talking on the mic but some actually have effort put into then and give emotion to them.
