You are able to do it without formatting, although special software may be needed.

Is there a reason why you can't format it, like no admin privileges? Usually I move all the files off the stick, open “diskmgmt.msc” as admin, delete all the partitions on the stick, and then make a “New Simple Volume.”

I learned recently Microsoft.. never recalled Recall? It's getting put onto their newfangled Copilot PCs Now THIS is a linux ad

You can't find an answer online because it's impractical and may be impossible. If you need to preserve the data on the drive before changing the format then back it up somewhere else before you do.

No, but I'll say if you dig down online you will find a tutorial
Just backup the files to a different storage, format the drive, and put the files back. Simple

i'm really looking forward to it. i've always hated windows 10 for being a horrible buggy mess with inconsistent design, and pushing the microsoft store in your face, but it does what i want and it works (most of the time, at least), it's nice to see that microsoft actually care about their os and their userbase for once.
i use windows 10 and it works fine im offended!
let me just disregard the fact that:

sometimes my PC crashes because i try to shut it down
Microsoft store apps are an absolute JOKE
sometimes dealing with my drivers is a HEADACHE
sometimes it just freezes because i inhaled oxygen
“Get ready for Windows 11” and then i can't even upgrade to Windows 11 so WHY TELL ME TO GET READY FOR IT IN THE FIRST PLACE

but yeah, windows 10 is totallyyyyy not buggy and totally consistent

unliek what everyonee is telling you, you don't need to format. you should download a program named “Macrorit Partition Expert”, open it, find your flash drive, right click, and convert. pretty simple, lmk if u need help

But where to move the data off the stick? I have 1TB MS OneDrive but it won’t allow me to copy some stuff there and have used 40 out of 232GB of storage.
And I’m an admin.

is it just me or does basic windows apps like command prompt and disk formatting tools not work as it's supposed to?
i was on a w11 machine recently trying to format an sd card as fat32 and the only way to do that was through cmd. however, windows was having trouble reading the card for some reason.

i got the issue fixed on my main linux rig once i got back home but that was weird

Maybe try running it on a real Windows 11 distribution. For example, Ubuntu and Solus in VirtualBox don't recognize my USB stick.

they really had to pick the most intrusive way to let us know win10 was going out of support
was playing a match of The Finals the other day and got a fullscreen ad, needless to say we sold that round

heres what i think:
take your stupid TPM 2.0 requirement and flush it down the toilet.
lets be real, the Windows 11 requirements are stupid, its just reskinned Windows 10. im pretty sure if my PC can run windows 10, it can run 11 too. Microsoft's just running out of money and want you to buy new hardware (like the surface) from their website, and I AINT HAVIN IT

windows 10 is not a piece of-fart spyware ridden dumpster fire. you can make it that way if you want though, with enough random download buttons on sketchy websites, you can do ANYTHING!
