sorry to mention a diff show/fandom in this forum topic but it's related I swear!!!! anyway there's this common misconception that GUMI sung the Catch You Catch Me theme in Cardcaptor Sakura which isn't true, at least technically?? I think people got confused, but GUMI actually was a pseudonym used by Megumi Hinata, who actually sung the theme. The voice provider for GUMI (vocaloid) is Megumi Nakajima, so I guess people got confused when they heard GUMI sung the theme (long story short- the GUMI that sung the ccs theme wasn't the vocaloid). There are also several GUMI vocaloid covers of Catch You Catch Me which I think is really clever and cute :,3 I just wanted to confirm I wasn't crazy and help people understand that Megumi Nakajima (voice bank provider), Megumi “GUMI” Hinata (singer), and GUMI/Megumi/Megpoid (vocaloid), are all different ;_;

Hey! Looking around, there's 3. The voice provider for GUMI, Megumi Nakajima, the Megumi Hinata (which also goes by GUMI online, which is probably why people are confused) and then there's GUMI the software/voicebank. So indeed, they're different things! (I looked around right now myself so hopefully that helps you too! ^^)

Ah yes, because Yamaha would totally be willing to sell the single most well known Vocaloid to another company.

Yamaha never owned any of the most popular Vocaloids. They only made the software to run them. Crypton and SEGA own the rights to most of the popular ones, including Miku. Crypton has their own proprietary software for their Vocaloids (Piapro) and they have stopped making Vocaloid banks because they believe their software is better. And it is, but the older banks and Vocaloid software is still being sold and V6 supports all the way back to V3 if I remember correctly so they definitely still can be used as Vocaloids in the modern day. You will also notice that SEGA's branding of them changed from Vocaloids to Virtual Singers, though many rhythm games (like Taiko) don't care about this distinction and call them all Vocaloids because it's a popular name.

Yamaha never owned Hatsune Miku, Rin and Len, among others. They are owned by Crypton Media and SEGA. They stopped working with Yamaha in 2018 or 2019

i thought only project sekai called them virtual singers
like for example the maimai arcade machine still has a category called “niconico and vocaloid”

i think crypton just collaborated with sega to make the miku games
and the only affiliation that crypton has to yamaha that i know of is that they handled the commercial release of meiko and kaito (which were originally yamaha’s)

anyway in short miku and friends isn’t a vocaloid anymore because they switched softwares from vocaloid to crypton’s own thing called piapro studio
they can still be regarded as vocaloids though because the v1, v2, v3 and v4 voicebanks are still usable (similar to how teto switched from utau to synthv but she is still both an utau and synthv voicebank)

I think they'd get voicebanks and updates more often, plus, their vbs would be way better (considering there's some engine noise in V6). Hear me out, I get a feeling cryptonloids are being used and taken advantage of lately while the quality lessens. What's yalls opinion?
