No, he said that in another discussion, give me a sec to find it. (Maybe not exact but something close to that.)I don't understand, is that what you figure he would say?We will not remove a feature just because of some spammers.
Edit: I couldnt find when he said that. But just saying that this might get closed.

Update: I just found a Scratcher's project, assuming mass reporting is done by a group of Japanese Scratchers, since most of the projects on the first few pages of trending are Japanese. I am unsure if they got the idea from "even if these ‘Mass Reporters’ are an organized group" but the situation is getting worse and worse, as more people believe what they are. I don't see a good outcome if the situation sticks around.

Better mockup (this was a pain because i had to merge the starter projects CSS with the explore CSS, it was a simple copypaste though so it doesn't matter)

Without trending, we wouldn't be able to find popular projects. Search exists but its fun to see what's popular at a click of a button.

But, mass reporting isn’t such a big issue as people make it out to be. Most projects taken down on trending were taken down for actual reasons, however these reasons may not be so obvious to the project creator. Mass reporting isn’t even that bad, if there was nothing wrong with the project, it will be back up soon.

1. The projects get back up quickly anywaysmass reporting is actually useful in some cases (taking down inappropriate content.) else we wouldn't have the autotakedown bot at all.mass reporting is how many people got banned for no reason.
mass reporting is how projects get taken down cus some guy hated it.
mass reporting leaves a net negative on scratch.
one of my first accounts (edit: waaay back, just after 3.0s release) got permanently banned because of, guess what, mass reporting.
mass reporting, if kept, will slowly kill scratchs popularity due to banning everyone away.
2. It's not a net negative - a net negative is when after accounting for all factors, the result is still negative. But the result is not still negative, because mass reporting stops inappropriate projects from staying up for too long. The result isn't still negative, because mass reporting is still removing inappropriate projects to this day.
3. You can't get permanently banned because of mass reporting. You can get a temporary account block because of mass reporting, but not a permanent one.
4. It won't kill Scratch's popularity due to “banning everyone away”. People who follow the rules exist, and new ones are always entering, replacing the bad ones.
Please read this.
Edit: According to @jvvg, the automatic bans are very short (usually about 90 minutes- 1 hour and 30 minutes)

When I referred to an organized group in my initial post
especially if you are alluding to secret underground Scratch reporting groups targetting popular projectsI was being hyperbolic, my point was that this type of group would be impossible to set up as the Scratch Team easily takes down studios made solely for mass reporting, and will send out warnings/bans to people who falsely report. The situation doesn't seem to be getting worse, either, since ST already has systems in place to respond to projects that have been mass reported.
Permanent, network and fixed-time bans are done by ST and are not automated. The only ban that isn't automated is the temporary block that happens when a person gets mass reported. In this instance their projects are reviewed and they will quickly be un-blocked if it is found they are not breaking the community guidelines. In the case that they are breaking the CGs/terms of use, they will be given a lengther ban, such as the ones mentioned before. People will never get their account deleted or permanently banned due to being falsely reported, since this is done by a moderator and will only be done in response to someone who has repeatedly broken the CGs/ToU. That means every ban has a reason, even if you think someone was banned due to mass reporting, you have no idea what the actual reason was, since ban messages aren't public.
And now to something else I wanted to respond to
one of my first accounts (edit: waaay back, just after 3.0s release) got permanently banned because of, guess what, mass reporting.First, if this story is true and you believe you've been wrongfully banned, please send an email to appeals@scratch.mit.edu or use contact us.
mass reporting, if kept, will slowly kill scratchs popularity due to banning everyone away.
Second, mass reporting has existed for a long time, it's not something new, and Scratch still hasn't been killed. The site is constantly growing and when people get banned, new people will join and take their place. Also, as mentioned before, nobody gets permanently banned without reason, so do you really want people on Scratch who break the CGs just because you think too many people are banned?

(#1)I definitely agree with this! I've seen a lot of Scratchers' projects on trending having their projects taken down, and they have spent a lot of time and effort on making them, so I would really like Scratch to implement this feature instead of the explore page!
…So I propose you¹ to remove trending, that way, no one will be ruining the time of an innocent Scratcher, and if no one is happy about the new update, so be it, there's now no problem to deal with about the trending feature, because it's gone. To replace trending, 5 Scratchers (or You¹) could feature groups of projects in different categories, such as games, art, animations, etc, that way, more people at a time could get popular instead of just 5.You¹ would be picking what comes to our screens, not popularity, so if there's an inappropriate project proposed to get featured (the only way to get popular), You¹ would take care of it. This is how It would look: https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/1115166745
If anyone wants me to elaborate, say so.
I also made this topic for user feedback to see if people agree, one reason I didn't use Contact-Us, this isn't harming a dear Scratcher, so it's more necessary to have on the suggestions forums.
Real time takes real effort.
when report clicked for [5] times::hat
if <(mass reported) = [yes]> then
take down project
if <[project] = [inappropriate]> then
forever
take down project
else
take down project temporarilly

I agree with the conclusion but not with the logic. Mass reporting is a non problem. The real problem is that scratch shouldn't be about fame. The trending tab boosts projects that are ALREADY popular whilst not leading to unpopular projects to become popular.

I feel like people need to stop villainizing mass reporting, lets say we go with that one guys suggestion and only allow one report per day, and imagine this situation, Someone uploads a project that is so vile, that anyone who looks at it is traumatized for life that is pretending to be an innocent platformer. Imagine if it somehow got on trending
with mass reporting a group of people could immediately report it and protect others from seeing the vile project
However if its your solution the project would not be able to be taken down fast enough, and by the time something is done about it, a huge amount of people have already seen the vile project
my main message is mass reporting is not bad, its an essential safety feature. Without mass reporting Scratch could easily be used by evil people in order to at best, expose innocent children to degenerate things, and at worst, Scratch could be used for things that are just straight up crimes
