Hi y'all idk if this is just me but Scratch keeps randomly signing me out of my account every so often in the last week. I'm using the same device, same google account, but I'll try to respond to a message on my profile or smth and it won't post so I'll copy it and refresh my screen and then it'll say that I'm signed out. It's not a problem yet, just kinda annoying, but idk if it's like a new privacy policy or just me? It's been doing this to multiple devices I've been using Scratch on.

So I delved into the scratch bugs and glitches posts and I found some discussions from June of 2024 about the same thing happening around the time the privacy policy was switched again? Perhaps linked, I don't have evidence yet, but my hypothesis is that the privacy policy banner is triggering the logouts somehow.

The Privacy Policy hasn't been updated. Whether or not the banner informing you of the change appears is based on a cookie, so if you leave for 30 days then come back it'll be expired so the banner will appear again. Your sign-in status is also controlled by a cookie. So it's the cookies that are the problem, not the banner.

Let me clarify: I meant I'm seeing the Privacy Policy banner from early 2024 again. There are about 4 cookies on the scratch.mit.edu website, one of which manages user data by assigning a unique random number to each user, and something about the banner is perhaps causing the cookie to lose track of the number forcing the user to resign in. I don't think it's a coincidence that the banner from last year has returned at the same time as the problem users had last summer, but I could be wrong. The banner definitely is not meant to be up right now so that is something the ST should probably fix.

The banner is not causing the issues and I never said they weren't related. The reason both your log-in and your banner are glitching out is because they are both controlled by cookies, and both cookies are malfunctioning.
Also Scratch uses a few more cookies than just 4. Most of them are advertising stuff but there are several Scratch ones.

they aren't doing it on purpose. this is a bug and the scratch team didn't deliberately implement any bugs. they never will.
