Reinforcing with more examples. parts imposing false restrictions are blue, parts that are patronizing or unwelcoming/dismissive are red, and parts that are OK are green.

Reinforcing with more examples. parts imposing false restrictions are blue, parts that are patronizing or unwelcoming/dismissive are red, and parts that are OK are green.I think the “we'd appreciate” in the first example is a good enough qualifier for telling people that these aren't Scratch's rules, they're just what whoever created the topic would prefer, which is fine. And I can't see how a heart analog could possibly be parsed as patronising here - it feels more like a replacement for “please”.

As for the second example, the first section in red is certainly unwelcoming, though it's not targeted at anyone in particular. It does seem like imposing false restrictions though. “SWC is run on an honor system – we trust that you will act accordingly” - they aren't in any way ‘imposing false restrictions’ here - this part is clearly directed at other SWC participants as a reminder/request to act within SWC rules. They're not falsely telling anyone that they're breaking Scratch's rules for reading the forum. And “To those who remain” is low-level humour, not dismissive.
I see issues with this when it breaks into lying about Scratch's rules, but most of these examples are fine.

Additionally, the problem with anti-stalking messages isn't just (potential) hostility and condescension, but the fact that they label people as stalkers. They say that if you're not invited, you're a stalker. In no circumstance can stalker be used politely towards someone online- and definitely not in these anti-stalking messages that are unfortunately quite prevalent.
You can make a similar message without harsh labelling and rudeness: ‘Hi! This topic is made for (insert name of group). This may spoil the experience for people who are not in (insert group). You are free to continue reading but please do not post off-topic. Thank you

… what?Idk, both can be wrong if one side decides to personally attack the other. And both sides of a civil debate can be in the wrong if they pull out a knife and starting to frenetically stab each other repeatedly in the pancreas.
So? Unnecessary parenthesis no offense. In a disagreement you're automatically in the wrong if you act inappropriately and without using civil means of resolving a conflict.
