most social media apps have this feature lol
Table of Contents

2.2. To an existing account

4. Let's aim for the suggestions directory!
Intro
Have you ever forgotten your username, password, and email connected to your Scratch account, or found them hard to remember? Well, no worries — you can use a Google or Apple account!

How to Connect
For this feature to work, you must connect your Scratch account to your Google or Apple account. Here's how:

To a new account
Click “join scratch”. Then, click “Sign up with Google” or “Sign up with Apple.” If you click Sign up with Google, you will be redirected to the Google account selection screen. Clicking Sign up with Apple will ask if you want to hide your email from scratch. In this case, you should click “Share My Email” so that your email will be automatically added to your Scratch account.

To an existing account
One could go to their account settings, click Account, then click “Connect to Google Account” or “Connect to Apple Account”. See the “To a new account” section to see what each button does.

Log In with a Connected Account
To log in with a connected account, there are two ways:
  • Click “Sign in” then click “Sign in with Google” or “Sign in with Apple”.
  • Type the Google/Apple account's username (or Apple ID if connected to Apple) and password.
  • Enter the Scratch username and password. (of course)

Let's aim for the Suggestions Directory!
If you like the suggestion, even if you don't plan on posting here, POST HERE! WE HAVE TO GET THIS ONTO THE SUGGESTIONS DIRECTORY! COPY THIS SECTION AND PASTE THIS INTO THE POST! Nvm chainmail isn't allowed

I can tell you with confidence that the targeted demographic for Scratch does not have Google or Apple accounts.

Scratch is not a social media.

Not to mention, the reason this is allowed in social media is because the website then gives information to Google to tailor its searches to you. Why would Google need information from a coding website? It violates privacy.

……no

why? just why?

Scratch is a kids site, you think there's 6 year olds and 8 year olds happily dancing around with their own Google or Apple account? Isn't a google account quite literally just an email anyways?

Their Google account is provided by their district.
Also, Google has way more services than just Gmail.

Erm, actually, you can share content and comment on Scratch, therefore making it social media

No support, not many kids have Google and Apple accounts. Most people that use Scratch are kids, so adding this might not be necessary.

There are many adults on Scratch (source), and kids' Google account is provided by their district.

Most “Sign in with Google” integrations are automatically blocked by IT admins:

Also, schools already have an easy way to manage mass amounts of school accounts - the teacher account experience.

Yeah, most of the demographic on Scratch here isn't even allowed to create a Google account anyway, without parental approval, which defeats the purpose of this suggestion.

Doesn't Apple have an Apple family feature where you can set up a family, this can auto create Apple ID's.

no support; i don't see any advantages of this over signing in normally, plus:

You're technically correct, in that Scratch wasn't coded to be a social media. However, you can share projects and comment on other people's projects. Henceforth, Scratch is commonly regarded as “kid's first social media” since the risk of encountering any preds (while unfortunately non-zero) is significantly lessened.

By that logic, why does Replit have a Sign in with Google button?

scratchcode1_2_3 wrote:

You may speak for yourself, but I've had a Google account since I was 12.

scratchcode1_2_3 wrote:

I think you're getting Google and GmaiI confused. Google does allow you to access GmaiI, but Google is not GmaiI in of itself.

SidewaysCoder wrote:

You mean the “teacher account experience” which A) is so easy to fake people have made tutorials on-site and off how to get access to it without being a teacher, B) a certain hexagonal ban speedrunner used multiple times and C) may have been responsible for that DDOS earlier last month?
==================
Overall, the only problem I can see is that it would be impossible to create alts - which IIRC wasn't even intended behaviour in the first place.
