Ban or discourage typing quirks that hinder accessibility

One thing that I don't see people bringing up is dyslexia. If a typing quirk changes the way the text looks significantly, I imagine it could make it a lot harder for dyslexic people to read them (I'm not even dyslexic and even I struggle to read some of them). And as mentioned, it could interfere with screen readers and other accessibility tools. So overall, these types of typing quirks just exclude certain groups of people for no real reason, people who are already excluded from lots of things mind you.

On the topic of disabilities,

I think you're far too easily annoyed if one symbol is harmful. I do get that it could be more annoying for those who use screen readers but still.

You obviously don't know anything about things like OCD. Well, I'm no expert on it either, but I know that you can't always just stop those things.
I cannot find anything online saying that typing quirks are caused by OCD. People do it because they want to and very much can stop whenever they want.

Edit: nevermind people are talking about dyslexia I just got ninja'd lol.

In my opinion, a star (or other symbol) at the beginning and/or end of a sentence is fine, it’s kind of like a signature
I agree. If hearing “slash aitch jay” at the end of a sentence for /hj is tolerable, I would think “unicode star symbol” at the beginning of the sentence is also tolerable. It doesn't detract the rest of the comment, and a screen reader would still be able to properly communicate the rest of the sentence.

I don't really see such symbols as “attention-seeking.” There is the OCD argument, and while therapy/medication could potentially alleviate it, not everybody has access to those. Even aside from any mental health considerations, a symbol at the beginning of a sentence is just a bit of harmless fun, much like your standard emoji:

If I seem them continuously on the forums, I will report them.
Let me understand this: if I put a single unicode star symbol at the beginning of every single one of my forums posts (not sentences, forum posts) from now on, and nothing else about my writing changes, then you would report such posts? I don't think the moderators would be very fond of that.
No. If you put a star between every word I will report it.

That, in my opinion, is worse than any Unicode or anything.

Next question: what happens if you don’t post your typing quirk?

i think some can’t because it’s involuntary (according to plural system friend)
but really, do you hate typing quirks that much

and what report category will you put that in? because the star between words thingy seem like a very ok thing

1. no if you were to post a comment that did NOT contain typing quirks

2. nowhere did i say that. and im not the only one, based on some other posts on this topic

what bothers me is that people are so bent on doing it, but can’t really give a reason why, other than it’s fun. can I spam curse words because i find it fun

How would it be involuntary? Tics are not complex enough that they can make a sequence of complex coordinated actions accurately based on prior knowledge of how computers work and for them to just kick in when you're writing something. Most tics are things like eye blinking or toe crunching. Having copying and pasting a specific character as a tic makes no sense.

Also read the OP.

I mean seriously what would happen? There are people saying that they can’t help it. Have you tried not doing it?

Seriously…tell me you weren't actually paying much mind to my or Za-Chary's posts and our reasonings without telling me you weren't. Well you kinda just did. /hj /notmad
So, and this may come as a surprise to you /j, spamming cuss words and using one symbol in front of comments? Very, very different things indeed.

Tics aren't always going to make sense to you. They can be different. They vary from person to person.

Yeah, saying the world would end or they would pass away or something is quite an exaggeration, but it's literally just self-expression, preference, and other reasons me and others have already given you.

oh yeah i forgot how scratch forums are wildly different from the offsite forum,, people there would have killed this suggestion purely for “aesthetic”
I did read op.
no i don’t mean the unicode things, but r4th3r th1s (rather this)
it’s became a habit of some like how i will usually add “mm” in front of sentences (unless we’re in a conversation like this)

this ain’t a tic tics have nothing ti do with what i mean

But certainly a typing tic isn’t a thing.

And I’m aware that curse words != star. However I’m trying to get at the fact that just because something is fun doesn’t mean you should do it

nothing will happen, and some CAN’T help it (it became a habit like not capitalizing letters)

nothing wrong with mm. it’s a word (or a sound) meant to clarify your thinking. I would have no complaints if you started saying that on the forums UNLESS you say it when it doesn’t make sense. Like “mm I support this” is okay by “mm what the sigma” isn’t.

for people that use emojis. just don’t copy the emoji to your clipboard. that’s simple.

and not capitalizing letters is a habit I do bc I feel like it. But if I want to use caps I just do and it happens

some of them aren’t harmful at all. and if you really can’t read it you can ask for what it meant. almost no one on scratch will snap at you for that

Read previous posts. There are many benefits that you seem to be choosing to ignore just because.

I'm not sure typing tics are a thing either, I'm just saying that tics are different and don't always make sense to other people. And it's not purely for fun if you READ PREVIOUS POSTS BY ME AND SOME OTHERS. Please man
