How to make *GOOD* project ideas (a comprehensive guide on not getting stuck ever and making BANGER, TRENDING-WORTHY stuff)
Looking for project ideas only to come out empty-handed from a bunch of really generic boring concepts that have already been done before? I've been there. Inspiration is tough. But I'm gonna tell you how to get *good* project ideas every time you need ideas! I'll also be covering some premade ideas using this process for you to steal so this can actually fit as a project ideas post lol
Step 1: Make things easier for yourself.
Find out what you like. Do you like animating? Game making? Something else entirely? What do you have the most fun time making? Actually, that less question is less necessary, because sometimes you just really gotta step outside of your comfort zone to achieve what you want, you know? You have to be REALLY ambitious to do that though and that's not always that great of an idea. But if you don't have the slightest idea of the general form you want your thing to be, that's a problem and you won't get anywhere. Unless, you flip this with step 2.
Step 2: Get inspired!
The reason I said this can be flipped with step 1 is that sometimes you're like “I wanna make something like this” and then you can decide the medium that you want to present your idea in later. But inspiration is hard, where do you find it? Actually, that works as a prompt by itself. What has inspired you in the past? Maybe some other games, maybe a book you read, maybe the 2019 EDM album We Are Dust by Xilent released on Monstercat set in the same universe as the album WELCOME TO THE CITY OF OZ by Justin OH also released on Monstercat. If you realize “wow I take a lot of inspiration from books” then read more books! If you want, you can also try exploring stuff you haven't been interested in before, like if you've taken a bunch of inspiration from books and movies you could try some historical stuff. If you consume enough media, you'll find something I'm sure. Play new games! Watch more shows! Listen to the 2019 EDM album We Are Dust by Xilent released on Monstercat set in the same universe as the album WELCOME TO THE CITY OF OZ by Justin OH also released on Monstercat!
Step 3: ok I still don't really know what to do
That's ok! Just kinda brainstorm. In your last MEDIA CONSUMPTION session, what did you like or find interesting about the stuff you CONSUMEd? Jot down a ton of ideas that blend the different stuff you saw in a nice idea soup until something makes you say “YES. THAT.” There you go. That's your inspiration.
Example: Like let's say you really like the 2019 EDM album We Are Dust by Xilent released on Monstercat set in the same universe as the album WELCOME TO THE CITY OF OZ by Justin OH also released on Monstercat. But, you also recently read Wool from the Silo series and thought that was super cool. So maybe you could make a game where the world is overrun by evil robots and your only shelter is a giant concrete bunker that houses everything you need. This houses you and… just you. as far as you're concerned you're the only human left alive. And you really don't want to go outside because the robots are gonna find and kill you. But, a weird malfunction happens and the inside starts getting dangerously hot, and you're forced out of your home and into the dystopian remains of what was once a thriving world, a place entirely taken over by machines who aren't even really sentient and just kinda think they are. So you need to explore the area and find better shelter while also trying to not get spotted by the evil killer robots.
Cool idea, right? I literally just took two pieces of media that I really like, and instantly blended them together into a unique concept that could go SO HARD as a game! Isn't that cool? (feel free to steal this idea lol it would be so cool if this was a thing(
Step 4: Make it GOODER
Not unique enough? well first of all for Scratch standards it's totally unique enough and could get you top trending from word of mouth alone if you release it in a fully fleshed-out form. But let's say you want it to be COOLER. Some simple easy quick ways to do this:
Hey -LightningPig that's pretty cool and I loved the idea based off of the 2019 EDM album We Are Dust by Xilent released on Monstercat set in the same universe as the album WELCOME TO THE CITY OF OZ by Justin OH also released on Monstercat, can you give me more ideas to steal?
Sure I guess
So there you go! How to get crazy cool ideas for not just scratch projects but basically anything. Happy coding!

- Make a non-human character (and non-cyclops cube duh)
- Add in another source of inspiration and THROW IT IN THE IDEA BLENDER
- If it's a game, make a cool gimmick that isn't present in a lot of other scratch games. Stat upgrades? Code solving? Minigames?
- If it's an animation, PLOT TWISTS ARE SO COOL AND YOU SHOULD USE THEM. just dont make them generic and bad
- LORE. LORE. LORE. LORE. LORE. STORYBUILDING. CHARACTER BACKSTORIES. HISTORICAL DETAILS. LOOOOOORE!

Sure I guess
- You play as a cat in the 18th century and have to push stuff around to alter the future to do something idk “change the past to save the future” aah game
- Candy crush-like game, but with more complex shapes and moving mechanics (include some unique lore twist too, thinking something fantasy-ish, maybe elves? and different shapes mean different spells?)
- You're stuck in a computer and have to fight a virus
- You're stuck in a human body because you're a white blood cell and you also have to fight a virus
- Speedrunning game where you're a cool futuristic cyborg alien thing trying to stealth through a laboratory to steal a document to stop a nuclear war
So there you go! How to get crazy cool ideas for not just scratch projects but basically anything. Happy coding!

Hello! It's great that you want to help out other Scratchers. However, I think we have enough guides in the forums at the moment. Please feel free to welcome new Scratchers on the group welcoming topic or on individual topics created by New Scratchers.
Other places that can always use more helpful Scratchers like you, are the "Help With Scripts“ and ”Questions About Scratch" areas - please use them as designed, by responding to topics created by folks with problems to solve
Finally, a really good place for Scratch guides is the Scratch Wiki - check it out and see if it's something you might like to work on. They have a number of guides - and great organization.
