my favorite Green Day song had to be Homecoming from American Idiot. it's an amazing climax to an amazing rock opera. American Idiot is easily one of the best punk albums ever.

I've always seen the title track, American Idiot, as the introduction. It gives you an idea of what to expect from the album while also giving Jesus of Suburbia a reason to run away from his hometown, as he does in the song you mentioned.

i agree that american idiot is the introduction to the overall feel of the album but i see JoS as the introduction to the story

I agree. They're easily the best rapcore band. Broadcast to the World and Brain Invaders are my favorite Zebrahead albums.

Yes ofc. The band was likely named after the song since both Green Day and Burnout are from the California East Bay punk scene.

I'm not a big fan of the White Stripes, but I love “Fell in Love With a Girl” (I see them as mostly a garage rock band, but this song is a garage punk song, so it's on-topic).
