Parental Permissions for Scratch Accounts

Hey, Scratch community!

We’re writing to let you know about some changes coming to Scratch account registration. As of today, anyone under 16 who registers a new Scratch account will need permission from a parent or guardian. As you might already know, unverified accounts can still make and save Scratch projects, but they cannot comment, share, or participate in the online community.

We understand that this is a big change, and we appreciate your patience as we continue to grow and adapt to make sure everyone, everywhere, can continue to use Scratch.

FAQ

How will you be getting my parent’s permission to verify my account?
We will ask for your parent’s email when you sign up for a new account, then the account verification link will be sent to them.

What happens if my parent doesn’t verify my account?
You can still create and save projects on Scratch if your account is unverified, but you won’t be able to participate in the online community.

Why are you requiring parental permission?
Scratch has been used in every country around the world. Some areas of the world require that children have parental permission to interact with websites like Scratch. We want to make sure that Scratchers worldwide can continue to participate in the Scratch community.
