according to this pdf (which is linked through jobs in the footer) scratch 4.0 is in development- oh wait it will include ai image generation? this contradicts the original rejection in TOLORS and also lets a swarm of dangerous problems enter scratch, such as images with bias and distorted images that can give kids nightmares. ST should seriously reconsider this before the final launch of 4.0.

Imagine, Program, Share… The whole AI thing is pretty much against this philosophy!!!!!!!!!

Where does it say it’ll include AI image gen? How is that a net negative for teaching kids to program?
How would bias or distorted images occur when they train the model?
Where does it explicitly say 4.0 is in active development?

I read the pdf for the position, and it only says AI, not AI image generation (so probably an assistant)

Probably one of my biggest reasons against Scratch adding AI, is the controversy. It would make oh so many people upset and definitely spark up a lot of arguments among Scratchers. I bet a lot of people would quit if they added it

Well, people could generate images and leave the unshared. It's still an issue to even look at it

I have also seen projects with actual, legitimate, 18+ stuff that no kid should EVER lay eyes upon

AI image generation is a rejected suggestion, according to tolors:

2.10 AI image generation in Scratch
The Scratch Team has experimented with AI image generation for Scratch in the past. There are benefits for enhancing creativity, including making it easier for Scratchers to make the costumes they want for their projects, as well as inspiring Scratchers to make new stories based on the images they generate. However, there are also many downsides, including ethical concerns arising from AI images using copyrighted material, biases present in AI which reinforce harmful stereotypes, the ease of creating inappropriate content, and the difficulty of accessing AI. For these reasons, the Scratch Team has stated that they will not be adding AI image generation to Scratch anytime soon. For more information, see this article.

However, the use of AI as a virtual assistant is NOT rejected. You can discuss it on this topic. In general, AI in Scratch is not entirely rejected; it depends on the specific use of the AI.

It seems that “Creative AI” does not refer to image generation, it could perhaps mean generating ideas for projects or something along that line.

ai isn’t inherently bad. people honestly need to chill about it. you can create some of the best things with ai, and it’s becoming the world we live in. there’s no need for a conservative approach here

I believe the idea of “AI = bad” is inherently wrong, there's certainly applications for it that will improve the world for the better, however I do agree that Scratch really isn't the best place for a tool like AI image generation. Given the amount of copy-paste content that hardly even counts as derivative work on Scratch, adding in a tool that'd make generating content like that even easier kind of concerns me. That, and the fact that Scratch already has a huge problem with art theft, especially in the AI department.

With that being said, I'm really not sure why this topic is still opened, since it's already been stated that it's rejected in TOLORS.

I don’t really think that AI is art theft. If your image is online, it is subject to inspiration. I think it unacceptable to say that art ideas are yours. Everyone else can take inspiration from art why can’t AI??
