Can I get banned for having PG's?
Hello, so I decided to host a contest with PG's as prizes like every other contest I've ever seen. Then I get some messages saying: “PG's aren't allowed” and other things. I had no idea of this, and I've been on Scratch for 3 or so years on a different account, and have never heard of this. If this is a serious problem I could get punished for, I will GLADLY take down my contest. I've asked people and gotten mixed answers, so if someone could please tell me if I'm breaking the rules, please do. Thank you!

I don't think so, I've seen lots of projects which have PGs in them.

Despite this, people are still telling me I'm doing something wrong though. I don't think so, I've seen lots of projects which have PGs in them.

They are not allowed,
just because someone else does something doesn't make it allowed. I doubt it will lead to a ban, unless you do it continuously, maybe an alert if somebody reports it. I don't think so, I've seen lots of projects which have PGs in them.

The official policy
Anyways, I recall @Paddle2See saying somewhere that so many people do it that it's a little hard to enforce (especially since most people don't know it's not allowed). Still, you shouldn't use social actions for a prize, but you can use just about anything else- for example, code and art are allowed.

The official policyThis seems to be a rule on fake currencies not contests…do you have a more relevant source?

And why does that apply to PGs? The PGs essentially sign over their social action(s) to the person who made the contest, and that person can control where they send them. In essence, it's not being given freely- it's being given because one person says they should. In addition, this gives an incentive to make projects for the competition on the chance that they get social actions- which is effectively getting paid for it. It is not okay to use social actions (likes, favorites, views, or follows) as a form of payment. Scratch social actions should always be something that Scratchers give freely, not something they do because they are getting “paid” for it.
All of this said, it's perfectly fine to have a group of people love and/or favorite projects who are involved in a contest (such as judges, for example), if they actually like the project.
