In January, I've checked Scratch's lab menu because I've seen a lot of videos about the ‘new’ Video Sprites experiment. the animated text extension has caught my eye and I think it'll be very useful if you wanna use variables or something. Will it come to Scratch one day? Or will we have to use a giant amount of code for scoreboards?

Not necessarily. There may still be a need for text engines under special circumstances, like for undertale style text or for some other reason, like a different font or something.

No. The Animated Text extension is very limited, for example it only supports a few fonts. Pen text engines will likely still be popular and useful when the extension is added.

It still isn't out and it probably won't be for a while, it seems like the scratch team, despite this being the MOST useful feature concept ever on scratch labs, will focus on other new features, It is a shame as it is a pain to make a text engine AND make every letter and number. It was last updated in 2021 on scratch labs, and if they were focussing on it, it would be out by now, there is a disclaimer saying that some features may not make it to scratch depending on responses, but i don't think there are much negative things about this concept.

Definitely on their list of things to add, but they are still focusing on more important things such as upgrading 2.0 pages to 3.0, so it will take a while before we see anything on Scratch Lab start getting implemented on Scratch.

Exactly. People will continue to use text engines, because they can use any font they want (and create their own), but Animated Text effectively (if we're going to use Scratch design concept terminology) lowers the floor for that kind of thing.

Scratch 4.0 is not coming. Scratch 4.0 isn't even planned.

Assuming that it is, or doing things like saying “it probably will be in Scratch 4.0” makes people expect 4.0 is coming, even though it likely isn't anytime soon, and may possibly never happen.

I think I have heard of people suggesting this outside of scratch but st does not give what the scratch community wants most of the time
i think i also heard that st added this because of the sc (scratch community) wanted it
